UTILITY CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISOR

(FLSA Non-Exempt)

Pay scale range $44,720 – $62,500 annually

Depending on experience, applicable knowledge, skills, abilities and departmental fit

The Public Works Department is currently seeking an independent, motivated, positive and professional member for our TEAM. The candidate will be required to display a willingness to learn, adapt to change, communicate openly, be diverse and meet or exceed departmental goals and objectives.

Under the general guidance of the Water & Wastewater Manager, the Utility Construction Supervisor position will be responsible for performing skilled and supervisory work function to oversee crews involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of utilities.  This position is responsible for the management and safety of projects, and is responsible planning, organizing, and controlling projects.

Qualified applicants must have a Class B Commercial Driver’s license, High School diploma or GED, two years of experience in utilities installation, maintenance, and repair, or any equivalent combination or education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

CODE ENFORCEMENT INSPECTOR

Part-Time (No Benefits) Job Opportunity

Starting pay range up to $20.00 per hour

Pay Dependent upon experience

Are you passionate about ensuring community standards and regulations are upheld? The Alleghany County Public Works Department is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Part-Time Code Enforcement Inspector. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting properties within the county for compliance with codes, regulations, and laws, particularly focusing on issues such as tall grass, inoperable motor vehicles, and property maintenance.

Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills, including the ability to de-escalate conflicts professionally
  • Ability to build strong working relationships within and across departments, with citizens, businesses, and the community
  • Must pass a criminal background investigation and pre-employment medical/drug screening
  • The role involves physical exertion, walking over rough terrain, lifting moderately heavy items, and occasional exposure to potentially dangerous situations

Successful applicant will be required to assist in installation of water and sewer connections, mainline installations, repair of leaks in the county water and sewer system, and operate dump truck, refuse truck, and other equipment.

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Public Works, the Purchasing Supervisor, will be responsible for overseeing multiple areas of warehouse operation. This position will specialize in areas of planning, organizing, and operation of the warehouse including inventory management, surplus handling, facility security, and safety.

Under the general guidance of the Utility Construction Supervisor, the Utility Maintenance Technician position will be responsible for the operation, preventative maintenance, and emergency response while maintaining regulatory compliance of the Counties water distribution (pump stations, tanks, and valves) system; wastewater (pump stations, EQ tanks, and valves) collection system; and other appurtenances.

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I  

(FLSA: Non-Exempt)

Pay scale range $32,000- $45,000 annually

Pay dependent upon experience

Alleghany County is accepting applications for a Maintenance Tech I. – Public Works Department. Successful applicant will be required to assist in installation of water and sewer connections, mainline installations, repair of leaks in the county water and sewer system, and operate dump truck, refuse truck, and other equipment.

Other duties include snow removal, brush haulage, cutting grass, and other duties as assigned.  Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license.  A CDL is preferable and will be required within 6 months of hire for those applicants who do not already possess a CDL.
