Production Manager for an Ethanol Plant in Central PA. Responsible for the leadership and management of the production department. Requires a Bachelor of Arts/ Bachelor of Science in chemical, industrial or mechanical engineering or business administration, or a 4-year degree in related discipline. In-depth knowledge of the ethanol production process and technology is required. Five years' experience in the operation of a dry mill ethanol plant is preferred. A minimum of 5-years' experience supervising others in a significant segment of a large manufacturer or the entire operation of a smaller manufacturer is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for carrying out the established operations plan and compliance with  procedures for maintaining high standards of ethanol and by-products operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards. Manages budget and controls expenses effectively.
  • Maintain accurate production records on a daily, weekly, and/or monthly basis of key variables such as production volume, yield, plant uptime, utility consumption, etc.  Provide written reports on plant production to the Plant Manager on a timely basis as required.
  • Manage staffing in the Production Department with least amount of overhead to meet staffing plan.  The Production Manager is responsible to ensure that process operators are adequately trained in current operating procedures, equipped and motivated, so that total manufacturing objectives can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost effective manner. Communicates regularly with all process operators, both individually and as a group to ensure consistent operation among the shifts.  Conducts employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and development needs of all operations employees.
  • Formulate and enforce operations policies and programs that guide the department in maintaining and improving the profitability of the operation. Direct the establishment, implementation and maintenance of production standards.  Carry out projects that improve efficiency and or reduce operating costs.
  • Ensure compliance with current federal, state and local regulations. Consult with Human Resources Department as appropriate.
  • Maintain safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures including employee training and enforcement of standards. Direct, maintain, and enforce the safety program for all production operations; review safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all process operators.
  • Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others, working to maintain constructive working relationships. Communicate directly with maintenance department to coordinate maintenance and repair work in process areas. Communicate directly with QC laboratory to ensure effective participation by the process operators in the implementation of QC policies and procedures.
  • Monitor use and inventories of process chemicals and all other supplies.  Initiate reordering when necessary.
