The Peer Support Specialist II
Yamhill County Family and Youth is seeking an individual interested in providing peer support services as part of a Community Mental Health Program serving youth with mental health/behavioral health challenges. The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) will work with multi-disciplinary teams to assist individuals in accessing resources, addressing barriers related to their mental health, and developing skills that promote recovery and advocacy. Responsibilities include: use life experience to provide support to youth, assist in utilizing recovery skills, provide linkage with local peer organizations, identify strengths to achieve individual goals, and provide individual and group peer services. May also provide coordination of peer wrap around supports including community outreach to recruit volunteers, facilitator training, documentation tracking, and team facilitation. The Qualifications
The position requires Peer Support Specialist certification from a state-approved program or the ability
to obtain certification within 2 months of hire, in addition to a high school diploma or GED. Any
satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training which ensures the ability to perform the
work may substitute for the above. A valid Oregon driver’s license is required as well as successful completion of a criminal background check.

 

The Candidate
The successful candidate must be a self-identified current or former recipient of mental health services who embraces the philosophy of resilience and recovery, be a role model for persons receiving mental health services, and have personal experience and knowledge of recovery. They will have excellent skills in organization, paperwork management, and communication – both verbally and in writing, in addition to typing and computer proficiency and will be dependable, organized, self-directed, detail-oriented, and possess the ability to interact with co-workers, clients, and the public in a courteous, professional manner. Typing and computer proficiency is required for collaborative documentation. Other requirements include the ability to: understand the behavior of people under stress, develop cooperative relationships with clients, their families, and the community, maintain relationships with physicians, law enforcement agencies, the courts, public and private administrators, and the community in general.
