As a Recreation Assistant, you are responsible for the daily implementation of activities and programs, and will assist the Director of Therapeutic Recreation in all areas of recreational services.

A day in the life of a Recreation Assistant includes, but is not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

· Assists the Therapeutic Recreation Director with planning, implementing, and evaluating social, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and recreational activities and programs within a total health care plan that are engaging for our residents, with a focus on psycho-social well-being.

· Builds trusting relationships and interacts with residents in a genuine way, with maturity and tact, and creates an environment of positivity and calm in times of stress and trauma. Monitors residents’ needs, preferences, and degree of recreational involvement.

· Implements, moderates, and participates in activities, entertainment, and special events. Assists in developing new ideas for activities, entertainment, and special events. Decorates and posts signage for events.

· Coordinates the scheduling of residents for communication and visits with family and friends. Transports residents to greeting areas and back to quarters.

· Updates progress notes and resident charts, as required. Maintains and updates daily activities log, special events calendar, and birthday lists.

· Provides individualized one-on-one interaction, conversation, and other forms of mental stimulation to bedridden or mentally-challenged individuals who otherwise cannot or will not participate in activities and events.

· Serves as resident escort and transporter on trips or excursions outside the facility. Driving a transportation van may be required.

· Maintains, organizes, and stores recreational supplies and equipment.

· Maintains, organizes, and ensures sanitation of resident Activities area. Positions tables and chairs, and other area accessories. Maintains Activities area kitchen and snack commissary.

· Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned, as needed.



Required qualifications:

· High school diploma, or equivalent.

· Valid PA, or other state, driver’s license.

· Prior experience working in Long-Term Care preferred, but not required.

· Prior experience working with the elderly and/or disabled individuals preferred, but not required.

· Knowledge of arts, crafts, and recreation creativity preferred. Musical talent a plus.

· Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language. Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

· Enthusiastic commitment to working with the elderly and the disabled with patience, maturity, and tact.

· Ability to lift, move, and maneuver up to 50 pounds.

· Ability to work weekends and holidays, as needed.
