General Description
Under the general supervision of the Field Services General Foreman, installs and tests gas and electric revenue meters; repair appliances and heating systems; and activates and shuts off services. Trains and assists Field Services Apprentice Technicians.
Duties & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for on call rotation with a response time of 30-minutes to 16 South Golden Street
Keeps routine records and checks meter readings
Sets, disconnects and resets gas and electric meters
Lights appliances and checks operation for safety
Installs gas remotes
Troubleshoots electrical power problems (no power, partial power, etc.)
Performs all duties of a Utility Installer/Collector
Shop tests and calibrates residential gas meters and residential and commercial electric meters
Tests all configurations of electric metering in the field
Programs electronic gas and electric meters
Installs transformer rated metering and checks for proper rotation and billing multiplier
Performs gas and electric high bill complaints on customer’s premises
Inspects for violations of gas plumbing, venting and the NEC codes
Troubleshoots and makes moderately complex repairs to residential heating systems and appliances
Troubleshoots no gas trouble calls
Installs and repairs gas and electric water heaters
Responds to odor of gas trouble calls using gas test equipment both inside and outside
Builds new loops and repairs old loops for gas meter installations
Installs outside vents on high-pressure gas meters
Checks for and repairs gas leaks
Maintains truck stock for routinely-used parts and provides accurate data for billing
Determines parts needed for repairs and orders special parts for customers
Approves or rejects plumber’s work in accordance with the City Code
Installs, maintains and repairs residential and commercial HVAC systems under direction of a Chief Field Service Technician or the Field Service General Foreman
RELATED DUTIES:
Removes and replaces electric meter boxes
Checks for diversion of power
Makes periodic checks of odorant level in gas
Converts various types of equipment from liquid petroleum to natural gas
Participates on Department-wide work teams and committees chartered to evaluate or improve processes and promote the overall goals of the Department
Works with management and fellow employees to identify and correct health and safety concerns
Participates in setting group goals, assessing group accomplishments and providing feedback for continuous process improvement
Identifies and takes advantage of opportunities to introduce other NPU products and services to customers
