Job Summary:

The Associate Director for Clinical Affairs serves as the senior clinical leader driving and implementing strategies & operations designed to advance cancer patient care in Central New York. This position will create and sustain a culture of patient centeredness emphasizing quality, safety and efficiency. The Associate Director will partner with the Cancer Center Director to design and implement novel models of care, alternative payment model programs, and equitable distribution of resources (space, personnel, funding).


This position will also act as an advocate for and liaison to referring physicians, ensuring that the Upstate Cancer Center is responsive to their needs and concerns. The Associate Director will actively promote the Cancer Centers multidisciplinary approach to patient care as a local, regional, and national leader in innovative and collaborative models of care, including cancer clinical trials.


This position will have a direct reporting relationship to the Director of the Upstate Cancer Center and for academic responsibilities to the Department Chair and/or Division Chief of his/her primary appointment.

Minimum Qualifications:

MD degree with board certification in Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, or other oncology specialty, and an unrestricted state medical license.

Further qualifications include:

  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to advance and develop superior clinical services that, consistent with the academic mission, would include seamless integration with clinical research.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve sustainable multidisciplinary quality improvement
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for both clinical and nonclinical audiences, in group settings, or one-on-one.
  • Expertise in establishing physician relationships combined with the ability to collaborate with and manage in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Effective supervisory skills, including clinical mentoring, faculty development, and coaching expertise.
Preferred Qualifications:

Masters Degree in Business Administration

Work Days:

M-F 8:00 to 4:30
