This role will be part time supervising and then part time treating patients. This person will oversee 20-25 direct reports and will be overseeing two teams at the new Orthopedic/ Sports Med building. This team is made of up highly motivated, forward thinking clinicians who are either a physical therapist or occupational hand therapist.

Job Summary

Assumes shift accountability for supervising and coordinating the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the rehabilitation services. Performs the duties of licensed Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists or Speech & Language Pathologist as appropriate. Assists with development of policies, procedures, and processes in coordination with leaders to ensure the highest quality services are always delivered at the right time to all customers. Key responsibilities include assisting with the following: goal setting, program development, fiscal management, resource allocation, standards of care, policy and procedure development and interpretation, human resource development, performance improvement and maintenance of interdisciplinary collaborative relationships.

Essential Functions

  • Provides appropriate supervision and direction to physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, rehab aides, clinical leads, and other support personnel.
  • Performs the duties of the licensed Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist or Speech & Language Pathologist as appropriate.
  • Provides support to therapy team members as a hands-on leader. This includes collaborating with management in the development and implementation of staff orientation, mentoring, competency training, competency development, and the provision of ongoing mentorship or implementation of performance enhancement plans.
  • Functions in a consulting capacity to professional team members and rehab managers, providing necessary education and training as required. Provides education and counseling to patients / family / significant others / members of the health care team to optimize outcomes and appropriate utilization of therapy services.
  • Collaborates with management in the review and assessment of individual team member skills and required training. Assists with interdisciplinary relationships to support improvements in care delivery, patient, staff, and physician satisfaction. Evaluation of care delivery is achieved through performance improvement process, monitoring of quality indicators, evaluation of staff performance and rounding.
  • Responsible for human resources issues involving supervised employees; to include but not limited to, hiring, evaluations, corrective action, and updating job descriptions Develops and maintains standards for area of accountability and communicates those standards to the employees.
  • Engages in continuous study of the entire professional field to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. Completes required continuous training and education, including department and Spectrum Health specific requirements on a timely basis.
  • Participates in process improvement activities. Continuously monitors quality, cost effectiveness, and efficiency in area of accountability and identifies trends. Ensures that services are provided in accordance with practice standards, state and federal regulations, organizational policy, and accreditation/compliance requirements.

Qualifications- Required:

  • Required associate degree from a physical therapy assistant program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association; or from a certified therapy assistant program, certification by the American Occupational Therapy Association – Requirements may vary by therapy discipline (see addendum)
  • 1 year of relevant experience Skills, knowledge, abilities typically gained through 1+ year of related experience Required
  • 1 year of relevant experience clinical experience in the field of rehabilitation or comparable field Required
  • LIC-Physical Therapist Assistant - STATE_MI State of Michigan required Or
  • CRT-Occupational Therapy Assistant, Certified (COTA) - NB-COT National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy required Or
  • LIC-Physical Therapist - STATE_MI State of Michigan required Or
  • CRT-Occupational Therapist, registered (OTR) - NB-COT National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy required Or
  • CRT-Speech Language Pathologist - ASHA American Speech-Language-Hearing Association required
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required

Qualifications- Preferred:

  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree in the appropriate field of rehabilitation (Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy or Speech & Language Pathology) or Business Management or Healthcare Administration or similar or a combination of equivalent degree, certification and/or experience – Requirements may vary by therapy discipline (see addendum)
