The City of Coralville is seeking a detail oriented individual for the position of Water Department Superintendent. Reporting directly to the City Administrator, the Superintendent oversees the City’s water production, treatment and distribution. The Superintendent will be expected to work closely with staff, consultants, and City Council to provide the service expected by the residents and to plan appropriately for future growth.


The ideal candidate is one that has an understanding of water best practices and an ability of implementing those. Successful candidates will be able to build relationships with not only other members of the Water Department but other City departments as well as the community. Qualified applicants for the Superintendent will also be expected to follow the progress of, interpret, and implement new and changing regulations as needed.

The Superintendent will work in both an office setting and will be expected to work in the field to manage projects and oversee operations. Hours for the position are typically 7:00 am to 3:30 pm however the position will be required to respond to emergencies from time to time at any time. The position requires a State of Iowa Grade III Water Treatment and Water Distribution license.

Qualifications:

Five years of responsible supervision of a water treatment plant and/or water distribution system. Two years post high school education or A.S. degree with a B.S. preferred from an accredited college or university. State of Iowa Grade III Water Treatment Plant Certification, with the ability to obtain a Grade IV. State of Iowa Grade III Water Distribution Operator certification, with the ability to obtain a Grade IV.

Special Requirements:

Must live within 23 miles of the Coralville City Limits after hire. Must pass a post offer pre-employment physical and drug screen and background investigation. Will participate in the City of Coralville random drug testing program for safety sensitive employees/CDL drivers.
