General Description
The Director manages the day-to-day operations of the
NSF

IUSE
grant entitled Infusing Research as Pedagogy (
IRAP
) and ensures the completion of grant objectives and key performance indicators, reporting to and supporting the Principal Investigator (PI) and co-PIs in successfully carrying out the program. The
IRAP
project will examine how research opportunities may increase student engagement, critical thinking skills, student retention and graduation, and transfer into a baccalaureate
STEM
program. The project includes three coordinated Interventions: 1) integrating course-based research into eight
STEM
gateway courses; 2) supporting independent student driven research experiences; and 3) creating a summer research academy. These interventions will incorporate student driven research into the curriculum, enhancing the traditional community college learning experience. The project will assess the impact of research experiences by comparing baseline and post-intervention populations using the Critical Thinking Assessment Test instrument.  The Director works collaboratively with faculty and staff at Union and with an external evaluator.  He or she shows by example a commitment to strategies that result in increasing the number of Union students who are retained, graduate and transfer in
STEM
.
 
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
 
·         Serve as a contact point for students and faculty members pursuing research. 
·         Assist the PIs and faculty members in administering the
CAT
assessment.
·         Oversee the grant budget and time and effort reporting. 
·         Process faculty overload, student stipend payments, travel authorizations and vouchers. 
·         Work with grants accountant to process draw downs.
·         Ensure financial compliance and assist PI with grant reporting. 
·         Assist with scheduling and preparing for project meetings. 
·         Coordinate data collection and reporting with IR and the grant evaluator. 
·         Schedule faculty and student workshops. 
·         Manage the proposal process and logistics for independent research and the Summer Research Academy.
·         Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Education Requirements
 
·         MS in a
STEM
related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience to demonstrate core competencies.
 
Experience
 
·         Commitment to the goal of Hispanics and all students obtaining college degrees.
·         Proven ability to complete assigned tasks, proven problem-solving abilities, and analytical expertise.
·         Experiences in program development, organizational development, strategic planning, and program evaluation.
·         Familiarity with federal grants (preferred)
·         Excellent communication skills.
·         Ability to manage and analyze large amounts of data 
·         Ability to design and manipulate spreadsheets
·         Background in research.
·         Three years’ work experience in higher education.

·         This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
·         Some physical effort required; employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

·         Some travel required.
