Position: Nordic Center Manager

Compensation: $25+/hour with competitive benefits package Reports To: Director of Mountain Services Job Overview In support of our mission to connect people and nature, the Nordic Center Manager is responsible for the daily operations of Crosscut Mountain Sport Center’s (CMSC) Nordic Center. The Manager leads a team of seasonal staff, who provide excellent customer service to CMSC’s guests participating in winter sports including Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and fat biking. The Manager supports Crosscut in its dedication to providing positive experiences in the outdoors and introducing people of diverse ages, abilities, identities, and backgrounds to lifelong outdoor recreation opportunities in our community. The Nordic Center Manager should have solid time management skills, excellent judgment, a strong attention to detail, and be able to work efficiently and effectively with limited supervision. The ideal candidate enjoys a fast-paced, hardworking, and fluid work environment. Hours and Scheduling This is a full-time, non-exempt position at Crosscut Mountain Sports Center from October 16, 2022 – April 15, 2023. As programs and events can take place outside of normal business hours, the Manager will be expected to work weekends, evenings, and holidays with advanced notice to ensure excellent customer service at peak visit times and days.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks: Nordic Center Management Ï Work in CMSC’s Nordic Center, engaging with guests, and leading staff by example Ï Maintain a staff work schedule to ensure excellent customer service, including evaluating peak hours that need more team members Ï Ensure all procedures are followed daily for cash handling, end of day closeouts, and financial reporting Ï Work closely with the Reservation Systems Administrator, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Marketing Officer to ensure proper set-up, tracking, and reporting of sales Ï Work closely with the Marketing and Communications team to ensure consistency and continuity of communications from Crosscut to the public Ï Maintain the cleanliness of the Nordic Center facilities, including daily and weekly cleaning Rental Equipment Ï Manage CMSC’s rental fleet including Nordic classic and skate skis, poles, and boots as well as snowshoes Ï Inventory, repair, and ensure the maintenance of the Nordic skiing rental fleet Ï In collaboration with Crosscut’s leadership team, place orders for new equipment Program and Event Support Ï In collaboration with the Director of Mountain Services, biathlon coaches, and the outdoor education team, provide support for programs that take place at Crosscut Mountain Sports Center Ï Support the Mountain Services team by serving as a substitute instructor for Nordic skiing for introductory lessons for classic skiing Ï Under the guidance of the Marketing and Events Senior Manager and the CMO, provide support for events and communicate with the public about events and trail closures at Crosscut Mountain Sports Center Leadership Ï Under the guidance of the Director of Mountain Services, lead the hiring process for seasonal staff Ï Support seasonal staff in setting personal goals and evaluating job performance Ï With support from the Director of Mountain Services, implement and document staff training and incentive programs Ï Under the guidance of the Director of Mountain Services, provide support, training, and daily supervision of CMSC’s volunteer ambassadors Ï Provide input and feedback for other teams at CMSC on how to improve the guest experience Ï Contribute to the organization’s planning for future opportunities for an expanded retail and rental shop with increased physical space Ï Persuasively convey the mission of Crosscut to diverse groups with an understanding of our history, culture, values, programs, and future plans Emergency Response Support Ï Maintain CMSC’s first aid supplies including first aid boxes on the trails, kits in the Nordic Center, and the main response supplies in the CMSC office Ï Collect, organize, and summarize CMSC’s incident reports, communicating all incidents to the Chief Operating Officer Ï Coordinate CMSC’s incident command system including scheduling staff shifts and supporting and documenting required trainings Ï In collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Mountain Services, support the planning and implementation of Crosscut’s trainings and continuing education for risk management and emergency response General Ï Exercise independent judgment to ensure guest, volunteer, and staff safety as well as an exceptional level of customer service Ï Ability to effectively handle day-to-day challenges Ï Ability to know when to take responsibility on one’s own and when to bring an issue to leadership to address Ï Ability to work efficiently and effectively with limited supervision

Essential Experience and Knowledge: 1. 3+ years of rental, retail or related management or supervisory experience 2. 2+ years of experience managing a rental fleet of sports equipment 3. Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines 4. Capable of working well as part of a team as well as independently 5. Superior written and verbal communications skills, including an ability to work with guests and stakeholders of all backgrounds both verbally and in writing with professionalness, friendliness, sincerity, and enthusiasm 6. A positive mental attitude and problem-solving mentality

Preferred Experience & Knowledge: 1. Experience managing risk in wilderness settings (defined by distance to definitive medical care) 2. Passion for conservation, outdoor education, and outdoor sports, including Nordic skiing 3. Experience with The Flybook software or other POS or reservation software programs 4. Wilderness First Responder certification, or a willingness to become certified

Prerequisites: 1. Must have transportation access to and from Crosscut Mountain Sports Center 2. Be able to pass a background check 3. Be able to pass a driving record review by Crosscut’s auto insurance company
