QUALIFICATIONS:                       

  • Arkansas State Police – Third Party Tester Certification
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Experience in data entry operations
  • Commercial Driver’s License
  • Other job-related education and/or experience Transportation may substitute for all or part of these basic requirements upon approval of the bi-racial interview committee

JOB GOAL:        Responsible for training, testing and processing applicants for employment. Applicants

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Interview bus driver candidates and select bus drivers to be hired.
  2. Coordinate initial drug and alcohol screenings for potential school bus drivers.
  3. Schedule physicals for potential school bus drivers and physical recertification for current school bus drivers, mechanics and special ed para-educator/bus drivers.
  4. Run driver license and criminal background checks on potential school bus drivers.
  5. Conduct quarterly motor vehicle report audits for school bus drivers, mechanics and special ed para-educator/bus drivers.
  6. Conduct monthly audits for bus drivers, mechanics and special ed para-educator/bus drivers physicals and license renewals.
  7. Communicate directly with school officials for emergency school bus evacuation scheduling and school bus safety.
  8. Design and/or deliver training to school bus drivers and bus aides.
  9. Schedule and supervise training activities performed by school bus driver trainers and instructors.
  10. Provide training and recruitment plan to assigned recruiters.
  11. Coordinate monthly driver development classes for school bus drivers.
  12. Meet and deal with the public in a manner that will promote a positive image of the District.
  13. Represent the Transportation Department at the District’s annual Job Fair recruiting bus drivers and bus aides.
  14. Conduct and assist in classroom training for new school bus driver applicants.
  15. Maintain knowledge of updated state and federal guidelines concerning school bus operations.
  16. Assist with planning and scheduling of bus driver in-service as needed to assure renewal of annual state certification.
  17. Prepare correspondence and reports as directed by the Director of Transportation.
  18. Maintain and update personnel files of all school bus drivers, mechanics and special ed para-educator/ bus drivers.
  19. Assist state trainer with yearly file audits.
  20. Schedule driver in-service as needed for new hires.
  21. Maintain and update an accident file and follow up with refresher training for at fault accidents and/or incidents.
  22. Drive buses of varying sizes and complexity over designed routes
  23. Assist in data entry operations.
  24. Assist in answering telephones.
  25. Coordinate school bus safety week activities with students, staff and parents.
  26. Other duties as assigned.
