Job Summary

Responsible for the development and implementation of the quality assurance program for Sterile Processing across Spectrum Health West Michigan. Initiates and leads cross functional performance improvement and quality initiatives related to instrument care and handling, high level disinfection, and instrumentation transport. Participates in the development and/or revision of sterile processing policies and procedures assuring alignment with appropriate standards as well as current and upcoming regulatory guidance.

Essential Functions

  • Builds and maintains knowledge as a leading industry expert for AAMI and all regulatory and accreditation practices and guidelines.
  • Assists in assuring adherence to standard work and appropriate documentation by routinely performing tray and process audits at each step of the instrument use cycle.
  • Leads, facilitates, consults, and analyzes areas of process improvement and all associated projects prioritized by Sterile Processing leadership or the Infection Prevention team.
  • Utilizes a systems approach by mapping key process standard work and implementing value stream analysis to reduce waste, inefficiency, and downtime.
  • Collaborates with Sterile Processing leadership and educators to identify gaps in department or individual education related to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participates in the development and/or revision of sterile processing policies and procedures assuring alignment with appropriate standards as well as current and upcoming regulatory guidance.
  • Assists with the maintenance of strategic service quality indicators dashboard to continuously evaluate unit and shift performance, staff performance, and assists with the development of improvement plans and countermeasures to correct variances.

Qualifications
  • Required Associate's Degree or equivalent Sterile Processing, Surgical Technology, or related field
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Health Care Administration, Business, Management, or related field
  • 3 years of relevant experience Sterile processing technician or related surgical services or infection prevention experience Required
  • CRT-Certified in Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) - CBSPD Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution 1 1/2 Yrs required Or
  • CRT-Registered Central Services Technician, Certified (CRCST) - IAHCSMM International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management 1 1/2 Yrs required
