Come help make the case for museums! Persuasive public policy professional needed to help shape the public policy goals and legislative objectives of the American Alliance of Museums, the largest organization representing the nation's museums. Use your extensive knowledge of congressional procedure, committee structure and process, federal budget process and the larger political landscape to convey the societal value of museums to policymakers of all kinds.

About the position:

The Director of Government Relations and Public Policy develops, implements, executes and evaluates the Alliance's long-range public policy goals and legislative objectives. The Director directs the strategies and tactics to advance these goals and objectives with Congress, federal agencies and coalition partners; oversees the development of and produces materials needed to support these goals; provides appropriate calls to action content and materials; and plays a significant role in planning and executing Museums Advocacy Day, directing all elements involving the legislative agenda. The Director maintains effective working relationships with congressional staff and other stakeholders and partners (federal agency officials, the museum community, and coalition partners) and staffs the President and CEO's public policy activities as needed. Salary is mid-high $80s.

Skills and qualifications: The successful candidate has an understanding of legislative issues that affect museums, including arts and humanities funding, tax policy, and education policy and the related federal agencies; a proactive entrepreneurial approach to advancing policy positions; can cultivate relationships with key stakeholders; ability to compile complex reports, compose congressional testimony & position statements and communicate public policy positions verbally (including public speaking) and in writing. At least 5-7 years of experience in policy advocacy and college degree required. Some Capitol Hill experience (or equivalent experience) strongly preferred. This position travels out of state for conferences and industry events 2-4 times per year.
