Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area, Inc. Accounting Assistant - Shared (Part-time 24-30 hrs) Major Responsibilities: The Accounting Assistant performs a number of analysis, reconciliation and reporting functions which are essential to Finance Department and corporate operations. The individual in this role assists and is accountable to the Director of Finance. Primary Functions: Prepare and submit Sales Tax Returns to the Department of Revenue for ReStore operations and satisfies store licensing requirements of the City, County and State. Monitor and assist with control of Purchased Merchandise Inventory levels in ReStores. Produce necessary reports. Serve as primary internal POS system performance auditor and educational resource. Prepare Draw Requests along with supporting documentation for submission to funder as required. Monitor payment status and follow up with funder as necessary. Request W/C & Gen’l Liability Insurance Certificates for Project files, Grantors and Special Events. Prepares Grant Compliance reports whether on monthly, quarterly, annual or project basis. Works in conjunction with Grant Writing team to assist in the development and/or review of financial information for Grant Application submission. Works in Conjunction with Mortgage Administrator to monitor and reduce delinquencies. Monitors and reconciles financial aspects of Mortgage Servicing activity. Prepare various Business Tax and Informational Returns as directed. Serves as lead finance team member at Habitat Special Events for Donations Processing and Collection Assists with the annual financial and workers compensation audits. Assists the Director of Finance with various tasks, projects and reporting as may be assigned from time to time. Secondary Functions (as may be called upon): Reviews all General Ledger and Job Cost activity for accuracy. When required, prepares necessary adjusting entries. Also prepares and records routine monthly general journal entries. Records job closing entries following sale of homes to Partner Families. Reconciles bank accounts and various financial records and subsidiary systems as assigned. Prepares Month End Reports including Performance Notes, Financial Statements, Graphs and other Special Reports Reviews and analyzes historical and forecasted financial information to develop annual budget support documents for departmental and overall corporate budget. Works with Director of Finance and Finance Committee toward completion. Performs Payroll functions, including setup and maintenance of physical and electronic HR and payroll records, as well as weekly and semi-monthly payroll processing. In addition makes payroll tax deposits & produces quarterly and annual reports. Processes & submits benefits information to the appropriate insurance and retirement program organizations. Qualifications: Baccalaureate in Accounting, Finance or related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of two (2) years experience in an accounting role as a staff accountant for a public accounting firm or lead accounting role in private industry. Must be very computer literate and skilled in the use of accounting software such as Sage/Peachtree or QuickBooks, Excel and Word. Must successfully complete a background and credit check. Essential that candidate be able to work independently, prioritize tasks and meet all deadlines. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment. Must have very good interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.
