GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs complex technical, administrative and marketing work in providing support and services for Parks, Recreation & Tourism. Serves as a resource to the department for managing and maintaining databases, ticketing and registration software. Provides technical support for hardware, stand-alone units, and peripherals, and all supporting equipment for department ticketing, databases and registration software. Coordinates design materials and marketing campaigns for department divisions and assists with long range plan mapping. Performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

•    Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs computers, software, and other equipment, including peripheral devices
•    Assists staff will cell phones and portable devices
•    Attends regional events to promote Roanoke County programs and activities
•    Maintains inventory of computer hardware, software and peripheral devices
•    Designs promotional materials and signs for Roanoke County
•    Trains staff individually and in a classroom environment on the use of equipment, support software, networks, and reference products
•    Designs graphics, plans, and maps through ArcGIS, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop software programs
•    Works Roanoke County special events such as Illuminights and Adventure Saturdays.
•    Provides customer service at administration office front desk
•    Maintains database for PRT programs, memberships, accounting and clients
•    Sets up, operates, and maintains department equipment such as video projectors, overhead projectors, computer projectors, various scanners, etc., as applicable
•    Maintains inventory of replaceable parts and supplies for a variety of hardware and department equipment
•    Produces guides, help-sheets, instructional aids, bibliographies, etc. related to equipment, automation, and select subject areas
•    Plots and maps GPS points for trails, greenways and parks
•    Does electronic research on deeds, records and landownership
•    Assists in writing grants and award applications

REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES

Education    
Required: High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by technical training or college courses related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of computers and related equipment.  

Experience    
Required:  One (1) or more years of related experience
Preferred:  Previous public service, customer service, or training/teaching experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of department specific computer hardware, software, internal and external networks, and Windows operating systems
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop programs
  • Knowledge concerning internet access and website maintenance
  • Ability to diagnose and repair computers, printers, and other peripheral devices
  • Ability to diagnose and report problems with communications and networking equipment and software
  • Ability to install software and troubleshoot common problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to plan and implement a program of training for various types of users
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in complex relationships with the public, County staff, service partners, and vendors
