Class Description

Coordinating the total swimming pool operation for the instructional, intramurals, athletics, camps, student/staff recreational and community use programs. Provide staff development for instructional, athletic, and camp staff with the most recent Pool and Spa Operation procedures to ensure safety of all persons using the aquatics facility. Responsible for implementation of all national, state and county regulations with the operation of the swimming pool facility, including sanitation, safety, security, and emergency procedures.

Compensation within the posted range is determined by a candidate's education level and/or years of experience in the field.  Generally, employees are hired in the lower third of the scale.  

Minimum Requirements

Associates of Arts degree required, Bachelor’s preferred. Five years aquatics experience; pool operator certification, Lifeguarding/First Aid certification, Water Safety Instructor certification, CPR and AED certification required. Blood Borne Pathogen training provided by CCBC, Pool and Spa Operator Instructor Certification preferred.

Class Specific Essential Duties

  1. Manage and maintain swimming pool and any other assigned facilities.
  2. Responsible for ordering and regular inventory of equipment and supplies.
  3. Assist users in the facility.
  4. Assist faculty with class equipment needs.
  5. Maintain all records pertinent to daily operations.
  6. Supervision of work study students and part time associates.

Position Specific Essential Duties

  1. Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate the work of work study student and part time associates. Provide training and support as necessary.
  2. Develop and implement risk management procedures for the aquatic’s facility. Handle emergency situations in the pool area as necessary.
  3. Serve as weekend pool operator and lifeguard as needed. 
  4. Promote, organize and conduct training programs for lifeguards, and other community coordinators and community participants, as well as faculty and staff as requested. 
  5. Coordinate and schedules classes with Essex PE Coordinator, for open Swims for faculty/staff/ students/alumni. 
  6. Monitor and maintain pool water quality by testing every two hours as required, recording, analyzing, diagnosing and adjusting chemicals as necessary.
  7. Act as a liaison and coordinator to required agencies and special interests groups. (Baltimore County Health Department, EPA) 
  8. Ensure that all safety equipment is operational to meet county and state regulations in the pool area, circuit center and building (AED, Oxygen, CPR masks, First Aid Kits, Spine Boards, Phones, etc.)
  9. Coordinate and work with Plant Operations on various maintenance projects and for pool closing operations.     
  10. Requisitioning: Chemicals and Supplies, Teaching Aids and Equipment.
  11. Responsible for staff development in Pool Operations to meet county and state regulations.
  12. Maintain programming schedule and adequate staffing for assigned facilities.
  13. Develop and Update campus EAPS (Emergency Action Plans). Assist in creating and updating of College-Wide Aquatics Manual, remain abreast of current information in the aquatics industry by attending conferences and seminars/workshops. 
  14. Meet regularly with College-Wide Aquatics Committee to discuss issues involving the safety, security, and emergency procedures and implementation on all three campuses.
