Biweekly Hours: 80.00

Shift: 8am-4:30 pm

Summary: 


Under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist, the general supervision of Senior Radiation Therapists, and the oversight/direct supervision of the Lead Senior Radiation Therapist, skillfully provisions patient care to infant through adult patient populations. Ensures that appropriate radiation therapy services are provided to patients. Maintains treatment records daily. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

 

 

Responsibilities:


1. Ensures that appropriate radiation therapy services are provided to patients.

2. Ensures that prescribed planned courses of care for Computerized Tomography (CT) Simulation are provided.

3. Supports set quality assurance standards.

4. Maintains records of daily treatment; maintains other records as required.

5. Secures/maintains supplies, x-rays, and lab records as required.

6. Checks for the proper functioning of beam direction devices, protective devices, and heavy/dangerous equipment.

7. Reports/records the erratic functioning of equipment to senior staff and the Physicist.

8. Contributes to maintaining orderliness and cleanliness in the department.

9. Observes radiation safety measures for patients and personnel.

10. Assists the Physicist with performing brachytherapy procedures as needed.

11. Supports new clinical practice modalities.

12. Stores, sterilizes, or prepares special applicators containing radioactive substance implanted by Physicians.

13. Assists with the preparation of sealed radioactive materials or isotopes for use in radiation therapy treatments as needed.

14. Assists with supervising students as needed.

15. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in continuing education courses, professional organizations, seminars/workshops, reading current literature, and/or maintaining professional contacts in the community; monitors and assesses the appropriateness of emerging trends/strategies, and adopting techniques as deemed appropriate.

16. Incorporates principles of teamwork in the resolution, completion, and follow-up of responsibilities.

 

 

Qualifications:


Required:
Graduate of a Radiation Therapy program through a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)-approved School of Radiation Therapy.
Registered in the Radiation Therapy (T) discipline with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Current Radiation Therapist Radiologic license from the Ohio Department of Health.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for the American Heart Association (AHA), OR obtains within 90 days of hire.
Ability to work during the hours of operations and adjust one’s schedule per patient volumes and workload.
Ability to work on call hours during weekdays and/or weekends per the therapist rotational schedule, and to work on call hours for a minimum of one week per year over one of the major holidays.

Preferred:
Experience with the Mosaiq medical record systems.
Experience with external beam radiation therapy, Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Computed Tomography (CT) simulation, stereotactic techniques, and/or brachytherapy.

Physical Requirements:
May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.
May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required.
Ability to lift materials weighing up to 35 pounds.
Ability to push/pull over 100 lbs.
Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications.
Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
Requires some exposure to chemicals.
