Facilities Maintenance Technician
Position Summary: We are looking for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Facilities team to perform under general supervision, a full range of semi-skilled and skilled work in the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of agency facilities and technical systems.
The person in this position will diagnose problems, repair and maintain existing facilities including carpentry, drywall, painting, concrete work, flooring, roofing and the building of new facilities.
This person will also diagnose problems, repair and maintain existing technical systems including electrical, HVAC, hydraulic lifts, compressed air systems, plumbing, fire and lawn sprinkler systems and install new technical systems.
The successful candidate will create computerized preventive maintenance guidelines and schedules for equipment and tools; perform preventive maintenance on equipment and tools used to perform maintenance work including small engines, power tools, weed eaters, blowers, snow blowers, portable generators and lawn mowers and recommend replacement of items/systems that are no longer cost effective to repair.
This position is also responsible for maintaining equipment data, computerized preventive maintenance information and records of work performed.
The successful candidate will work with contractors on various construction projects; research and provide recommendations for bid specifications, solve problems during pre-construction and construction, and monitor work progress.
This person will also operate hand tools, power tools and light to heavy vehicles used in construction and maintenance work.
The person in this position will also assist with hazardous material clean up.
This person will also provide instruction and training to other maintenance staff.
This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor
Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $24.14 - $30.93 per hour. The salary upon hire is $24.14 per hour and will increase to $25.41 after six months of satisfactory performance.

Kitsap Transit also provides employees and certain dependents with a free transportation pass on Kitsap Transit.
Hours of Work: The department has shifts on weekdays and Saturdays. Shifts are assigned on the basis of seniority.
QUALIFICATIONS
Kitsap Transit employees who wish to apply must have a satisfactory performance and attendance record. Kitsap Transit Operators with any of the following criteria in the last twelve months are excluded from recruitment opportunities:
- a current Decision Making Leave or higher in the Safety category
- more than two held customer complaints
- more than four unscheduled absences
- more than two late reports
Education and Experience: High school graduation/GED, trade school coursework and three years of combined skilled experience in the maintenance and repair of technical systems in at least two of the following specialty areas of the skilled trades; HVAC, electrical and/or carpentry. You must possess or be able to obtain by the time of hire, a Washington State driver's license and an excellent driving record; we will check your driving records for the past three years.

- materials, tools, equipment and methods used in repair, maintenance and construction of buildings and facilities

- equipment capabilities, limitations and safe operating characteristics
Skill in:
- installation, repair and maintenance of metals, wood and man-made materials and fixtures
- safe operation of shop vehicles, hand and power tools used in construction and maintenance work
- providing instruction and training to other maintenance employees
- reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, diagrams and technical manuals
- keeping accurate and detailed records
- communicating effectively orally and in writing
- using personal computers and facilities maintenance software in a Windows-based operating environment
- establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other Kitsap Transit employees and the public
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Regularly exposed to weather conditions and vehicle traffic.
Required to climb ladders.
Regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 60 pounds.
Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, reach and grasp.
On call for emergencies 24/7 on Kitsap Transit provided cell phone.
Will be required to drive a Kitsap Transit vehicle throughout the county.
Licenses/Certifications:
Must have a current Washington state driver's license and a good driving record.
