Nurse Tech responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed baths, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients.
The Nurse Tech role will require 2 days of training in our simulation center and 1 day of EPIC training with our Nurse Educators. These are pre-scheduled and required classes from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. These in person classes typically take place on Tues, Wed and Thursday the first week of employment. Because these classes are prescheduled, you must attend each day. We are unable to reschedule the required dates if you cannot attend. Attendance is compensated.
The remainder of your Nurse Tech Orientation Period will take place on your unit with a preceptor for both day and night shifts and is also compensated. Nurse Techs are often floated to other departments of higher need based with similar training. If they are outside of a unit with their similar training (such as med surg NT going to ICU), you would typically just be acting as a safety attendant. But all typical units NTs float to would have similar expectations and training.
