Summary: 


Evaluates and treats patients by physical measures and the use of therapeutic exercises and rehabilitation procedures (with or without assistive devices) for the purpose of preventing, correcting, or alleviating disabilities. Patients may include neonates through the geriatric population. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

 

 

Responsibilities:

Contributes to patient safety by:

a.Providing a safe environment for patients.

b.Reporting safety concerns, errors and near misses.

c.Participating in system improvement initiatives to prevent errors.

d.Providing evidence-based care as applicable to the role.

1.Performs screening assessment(s) of patients by obtaining from chart(s) and appropriate staff all pertinent patient information, including past medical history.

2.Performs evaluations of patients with varying diagnoses.

3.Implements age-appropriate therapeutic treatment program(s) based on the assessment of the patient.

4.Develops and incorporates patient and family education into the therapy program(s).

5.Evaluates response to and effectiveness of treatment program(s), and appropriately modifies intervention(s) at regular intervals.

6.Establishes measurable and objective functional goals and treatment plan(s) that reflect the assessment data.

7.Maintains appropriate documentation and completes all necessary billing and statistical forms.

8.Supervises and delegates responsibilities to licensed assistants to aid in the carrying out of patient treatment(s).

9.Delegates assignments and oversees tasks performed by unlicensed supportive personnel.

10.Assists in the clinical education, supervision, and evaluation of physical therapy students.

11.Mentors and participates in the orientation of less experienced therapists.

12.Ensures compliance with individual, team, and/or discipline-specific financial and productivity target measures.

13.Communicates effectively and appropriately with patients, families, and hospital staff at all levels.

14.Gathers and presents materials and actively participates in division in-services.

15.Participates in peer review activities and implements suggested changes in treatment or documentation.

16.Participates in appropriate discipline-specific or inter-disciplinary performance improvement activities through data collection, data analysis, and program reviews.

17.Assists with instructional in-services to the MetroHealth System personnel.

18.Upholds the standards of the system-wide customer service program.

19.Performs other functionally related duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications:


Required:
Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, or post-graduate certificate in Physical Therapy from a school accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)
Holds a Physical Therapist licensure in the State of Ohio
Possesses current BLS certification, or obtains within 90 days of hire
Ability to travel to satellite locations.

Preferred:
Membership in the APTA

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to walk without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling during ambulation and/or gait training.
• Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm or leg during exercise program.
• Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient’s pulse.
• Visual acuity to observe patient’s gross movement, gait, etc., in order to analyze biomechanical problems.
• Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families who may not be able to read.
• Ability to hear or understand patient’s description of symptoms and response to treatment.

Frequently (25-75% of the time) performed tasks
Standing, sitting with and without back support, walking, reaching (overhead, forward, lateral, and low), crouching, balancing, lifting 5-25 pounds, carrying 5-10 pounds, and pushing up to 75 pounds

Occasionally (5-25% of the time) performed tasks
Stooping, climbing, lifting or moving 24-50 pounds, carrying 10-25 pounds, and operating power tools and machinery.
