Job Description:

Description of Department:   

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department is a highly dynamic department fully committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for our vibrant and diverse population of faculty and students. The department opened in August 2013 and has since experienced a large enrollment growth and demand. It occupies excellent facilities equipped with state-of-the-art equipment in the Shineman Science and Engineering Building with several studio teaching rooms and project laboratories that support flexible, modern and innovative teaching methods throughout the curriculum. Research laboratories such as the Wireless Solutions Laboratory, the Modern Energy Laboratory and the Robotics Laboratory are well equipped and currently support multiple faculty and student research projects. The department also boasts a close relationship with local industry resulting in several industry-sponsored project collaboration opportunities. The fully ABET-accredited program delivers a combined Electrical and Computer Engineering degree that allows students to delve further in areas of emphasis that include robotics, embedded systems, wireless systems, and modern energy systems.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full-time Electrical and Computer Engineering Technician .

Description of Responsibilities:

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Technician will be responsible for the operation of all Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) teaching and research labs, in consultation with the faculty, including:

  • The initial selection, purchase, testing, and installation of all teaching and research laboratory equipment
  • The continuous maintenance, repair, and calibration of all teaching and research laboratory equipment
  • The setup, maintenance, and upgrade of all the ECE program computers and networks
  • The continuous supply, inventory, and availability of all electronic and electromechanical components and part needed in the various classrooms and laboratories of the program
  • The logistical and technical support of students and faculty in laboratory experiments and projects
  • Providing assistance and guidance to students in the construction, including machine shop activities, of various projects

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Degree and five years of experience as a technician in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering or closely related field by date of appointment
  • A demonstrated ability and a commitment to work well with and assist students and faculty with various technical needs for teaching in a diverse academic community.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A college education in a technical area and technical experience in an academic environment
