Job Description:

Under general supervision of the Sr. Director of Infrastructure and Security, the Network Technical Specialist supports the network infrastructure and equipment. Responsibilities include installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting networks, firewalls, switches, wireless systems, VoIP, and providing technical assistance and support to users within the college community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the WAN/LAN/WLAN, firewall, switches, WAP's, and related hardware.
  • Installs, upgrades, and supports network systems, monitors systems for security vulnerabilities/patches/updates, installs.
  • Maintaining and repairing hardware including peripheral devices.
  • Supports user accounts, remote access (VPN) and other network/system access.
  • Manage Ethernet and fiber-optic wiring projects and initiatives.
  • Participate in and perform pre-proposal walk-throughs with vendors, review vendor quotes and provide recommendations, assist with selecting state approved wiring vendors and manage vendor relationships.
  • Provide support as-needed for network and power outages, generator tests, and scheduled and unscheduled outages.
  • Work with vendors to install, configure and test network and peripheral systems and ensure work is properly performed and documented.
  • Interact with various agencies/individuals, attends meetings; communicate with supervisor, employees, other departments, students, faculty members, vendors, and other individuals to coordinate activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
  • Performs network project related work and other duties as directed.


Requirements:

  • Associates degree, relevant network certification (CCNA, CCT, Network+, etc.), or 3-5 years' experience as a network technician, administrator or similar role.
  • Technical knowledge and experience in troubleshooting and supporting MS Windows networks and Cisco switches/topologies, WAP, firewalls, etc.
  • Excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask and strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work during non-business hours to ensure system installs, upgrades, updates, and patches do not interfere with normal operations.

SALARY:  $70,000 - $80,000
