SALARY

The minimum salary is $19.737 per hour.
This is a non-exempt position eligible for overtime, if applicable.
Pay Grade 516.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this position is to perform all functions related to the enforcement of the International Property Maintenance Code, Kentucky Residential Code, and other related codes and regulations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate's degree, vocational technical degree, or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two (2) years of college education in architecture, engineering, fire science, building technology, or construction-related subject; and, a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a foreman or other position that requires reading and interpreting building plans and specifications; or, two (2) years of experience performing building design or drafting duties for an architect or engineer; or, an equivalent combination of directly related, as listed above, education and experience.

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Must pass either the NCPCCI test module: 1A Building One- and Two- Family Dwelling test or the ICC B1-Residential Building Inspector Test within the six (6) month probationary period and maintain the certification as a condition of employment.

  • Must be enrolled and maintain membership in the Kentucky Certified Building Inspector Program as a condition of continued employment.

  • Completion of either the NCPCCI test module: 4A Building One- and Two- Family Dwelling Mechanical or the M1-Residential Mechanical Inspector if preferred but not required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Investigates complaints and/or conducts on-site inspections for compliance with codes and ordinances.

  • Provides information and assistance to internal and external parties regarding subjects such as code violations and the procedures required to achieve code compliance.

  • Creates and issues official communication including compliance letters, stop orders, citations and summonses; prepares case outlines and testifies in court; as needed.

  • Performs administrative duties such as record keeping, reporting, and web maintenance.

  • Assists the Division of Building Inspection through the enforcement of right of way signs.

  • Responds to emergency situations requiring building inspections, as needed.

  • Performs related work as assigned.

SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

  • Valid Driver's License

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to operate Urban County Government equipment and vehicle in a safe, prudent, and responsible manner.

  • Employees who occupy this classification must comply with CAO Policy 23 "Acquisition of Real Property From Property Owners under Certain Notices and/or Orders." Specifically, sections I (a), II (a) which state that employees and their immediate family members shall not own residential real property in Lexington, Fayette County, in which they do not reside; nor own an Ownership interest in a business that manages, maintains, or oversees the management or maintenance of any residential, rental real property in Fayette County. Also, section IV (a), which states that every employee in the Division of Building Inspection, the Division of Code Enforcement, the Fire Prevention Bureau, the Division of Planning, and the Division of Engineering must complete a "Disclosure of Real Property and Business Interest" form for all real property owned by the employee as well as his/her immediate family members in Fayette County, and property owned in Fayette County by a business in which the employee or immediate family member has an ownership interest. Employees must also disclose property located in Fayette County which he/she manages or maintains or has any ownership interest in business which manages or maintains property in Fayette County.

EXAMINATION

Examination will be a training and experience evaluation from information provided on the application at the filing deadline date.
