Supervision Received: Reports directly to the Director, Health Services.  
Salary: $60.00 Per Hour 

General Statement of Duties:
Student Health Services is seeking an energetic and dedicated Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide professional clinical medical services for Westfield State University (WSU) students emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention on a Per-Diem basis. The NP will be responsible for the delivery of urgent care, conducting medical histories and physical exams, management of immunizations requirements and health clearance for students when needed. The NP will be involved in Covid management (as determined necessary) as well as Health Education for WSU. The NP will also provide first aid and consultation to members of the University community when necessary.

Essential:

  • Provide collaborative, evidenced-based, culturally sensitive, and inclusive health and wellness services that promote a healthy and safe campus community. Manage (via Telehealth and in-person visits) acute/episodic care, evaluation, and treatment for full-time day students.
  • Perform telephone triage to evaluate need for in-person or Telehealth visits, or need for transport to Emergency Department.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and radiology testing for students as needed, and implement appropriate health care treatment. Perform and administer CLIA-waived lab tests in-office as required.
  • Assist with surveillance testing for Covid-19; coordinate with other departments/staff should the need arise for a student to be isolated or quarantined, and follow-up with students in isolation/quarantine.
  • Assist with contact tracing efforts on campus.
  • Provide clinical consultation and support to other professional staff members.
  • Provide education, screening and referrals when necessary for physical health assessment; Coordinate community-based care when necessary.
  • Provide follow-up health care and referrals for students as needed.
  • Prescribe and administer medications as necessary.
  • Maintains proper, professional and timely medical documentation while adhering to all ethical & legal professional standards, especially maintaining strict confidentiality relative to patient privacy regulations.
  • May Mentor, educate and supervise Nurse Practitioner students if applicable.
  • Assist staff in review and data entry of students' vaccine histories; contacting students with incomplete health records as necessary.
  • Recommend purchase of equipment and medical supplies to Director. Assist with inventory management, sterilizing equipment and PPE.
  • Collaborate with other Student Affairs Departments to provide additional support in caring for students.
  • Assist in the evaluation of students' wellness practices. Contribute to Student Affairs planning activities; compile statistics and research relative to students' learning outcomes.
  • Provide assistance with mandated reports for State Agencies as required.
  • Work as part of a Department team encouraging other staff members to be a part of the total health services team.
  • May perform outreach talks, presentations, and programs to campus community.
  • Maintain and participate in professional development and certification through continuing education opportunities; maintain awareness and familiarity of legislative issues relating to NP practice and health care.
  • Perform related duties as requested by supervisor within scope of practice.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree as Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner and active national certification as a nurse practitioner via the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB).
  • At least 2 years of clinical practice as a nurse practitioner in an ambulatory care setting. Preferred work experience in college health services and women's health.
  • Current Advanced Practice Nurse licensure or license-eligibility in Massachusetts at the time of hire.
  • Current DEA license or eligible for DEA licensure as well as prescriptive authority from the MA Dept. of Public Health.
  • Current health care provider BLS certification.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Covid-19 Requirements:

 As a condition of employment, you will be required to complete an initial series of COVID vaccination (2 doses of Pfizer/Moderna or 1 dose of J&J) prior to coming to campus.
