Summary


The Juvenile Division of the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced attorney with a commitment to justice, integrity, compassion, leadership and professionalism to join our team.

Our Juvenile Division is a national model in innovative, effective responses to youthful offending that seeks to hold respondents accountable for their behavior, while affording them the chance to turn their lives around and be positive contributors to our community. In addition to prosecuting criminal cases through the traditional court system, our Juvenile Division has implemented groundbreaking Restorative Justice Initiatives such as the CHOOSE 180 Program, Family Intervention and Restorative Services (FIRS), Community Empowered Disposition Alternative and Resolution (CEDAR), Restorative Community Pathways (RCP) and Truancy Drop-Out Prevention, where we seek to improve community safety and better address the interests of victims of crime.

Job Duties

The Juvenile Division is seeking an attorney with experience in criminal law, preferably with prior juvenile/felony level filing cases, negotiating cases, and trial experience. The attorney will be responsible for vertically handling a large caseload of juvenile criminal matters. This attorney will be expected to effectively file, negotiate and try cases. This position will also involve regular calendar coverage, with occasional coverage on weekends via telecommute. The candidate should demonstrate an interest in applying Restorative Justice practices. Juvenile Division attorneys are also encouraged and expected to engage in community outreach as needed.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Skill in planning, preparing, presenting and conducting case strategies to prosecute criminal cases.
  • Skill in presenting criminal cases in court.
  • Skill in interpreting and explaining policy and law to officials, other professionals and victims/witnesses.
  • Skill in managing complex caseloads and maintaining appropriate records, logs and case files.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with diverse professionals and general public.
  • Strong legal research, writing and analytical skills.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to working effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong commitment to Equity, Social and Justice issues including working on personal cultural competency.
Special Requirements:
  • Member in good standing with the Washington State Bar.
  • Must submit to a criminal history check.
  • U.S. Citizenship (per RCW 36.27 and 29A.04 and Article VI of the WA Constitution).
Salary$86,568.77 - $106,701.50 annually, depending on experience. 
A general wage increase of 4.5% is anticipated later in the year following ratification of the tentative agreement between King County and the Coalition of Unions. Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys also enjoy King County’s robust benefits package and are union represented by the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Association.
