Sonoma County Information Systems Department seeks a talented
 IT Materials and Equipment Specialist - Extra-Help

 
The Sonoma County Information Systems Department (ISD) is seeking an IT Materials and Equipment Specialist to join the Client Support Services Team.

This extra-help position plays a crucial role working in our warehouses to support Client Support Services and the entire Information Systems Department. This position will:
 
  • Receive and check for damage, quality, quantity, and whether material matches packing slip, purchase order, requisition or other appropriate document/record
  • Input receiving information into the department asset management system
  • Prepare surplus inventory for distribution to auction, donation, or disposal
  • Package damaged, obsolete, or unwanted material for their return or disposal
  • Identify, process, and/or deliver equipment requested by ISD staff directly to a location or designated relay point
  • Pickup and/or deliver computer equipment at customer sites
  • Store material in proper locations and rotate stock as required, moving from designated areas by hand, cart, vehicle, or forklift
  • Keep our warehouses clean and organized
This position is a physical job and the ability to lift and move equipment is required.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with an ability to adapt to changing environments and processes
  • Excellent administrative and interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word
  • Experience with Computer Technology
  • Forklift certification is a plus
Please note: This position will be required to have access to Sheriff’s Office or Probation Department facilities or view data or work with information systems for these departments. This requires that a more extensive “Security Clearance” will be performed after hire. This includes a Live Scan fingerprint-based check of California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) criminal records. If you are offered a position which requires a security clearance, the job offer letter will clearly specify this.

EXTRA-HELP EMPLOYMENT

Extra-help employees relieve or augment permanent staff. Temporary, extra-help employees are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most employee benefits such as: long-term disability insurance coverage; accrual of vacation; participation in the County retirement program; or eligibility to take promotional examinations. Temporary, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of one calendar year. These employees must be off of work for three months before they can be re-employed on an extra help basis. Extra-help employees who meet the eligibility requirements may qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage.

This recruitment is being conducted to fill an IT Materials and Equipment Specialist, Extra-Help position in the Information Systems Department. This employment list may also be used to fill future extra-help positions as they occur during the active status of this list. The Civil Service Title for this position is Materials and Equipment Specialist.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience which would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities stated herein. Normally, three years of experience in purchasing or warehouse work that includes responsibility for clerical record keeping would provide this opportunity.

License: Depending upon assignment--possession of a valid California driver' license. Certification as a forklift driver and herbicide handler is desirable for some positions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of: the procedures and techniques of receiving, storing, and issuing supplies, material and equipment; the general characteristics of various material used in road or water system/sanitation maintenance or related to Information Systems including familiarity with specifications, major sources of supply and approximate prices; stock control systems, safety rules, regulations and procedures related to receiving ans storage activities and equipment; the clerical and record keeping procedures related to purchasing, shipping, receiving, storage, and issuing of materials, supplies and equipment; proper and safe forklift operating and lubricating procedures, if required.

Ability to: organize and maintain a central yard or storeroom; establish and maintain adequate inventory controls and record keeping systems; estimate future supply needs by reviewing past and projected use; accurately and neatly complete forms and records; spot discrepancies between items received and purchase order and packing slip; review computerized stock status reports; perform routine arithmetic calculations; deal courteously with individuals contacted in the course of work; operate a 16,00 lb. Capacity forklift if require; perform tasks which require physical strength and ability.

A background investigation is required prior to employment.
