Salary: Range 49-- $33.35 (step one) - $42.28 (step ten) hourly*

Work Schedule: In-person/telecommute (hybrid)-Monday - Friday, our core business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; an alternative schedule is subject to supervisor approval.

Work Location: Clark Children and Family Justice Center (CCFJC), 1211 East Alder Street, Seattle

Job Duties
  • Coordinate with filing and EPU deputies to identify and prioritize workload
  • Review discovery and determine outstanding records that need to be obtained through the detective / follow-up on DPA "More Information" requests
  • Work with DPAs on proactive investigative tasks
  • Prepare plea/disposition packets for Juvenile Probation Counselor (JPC), defense, and the Court
  • Prep orders in Superior Court's KCMS Program for Arraignment and Plea/Disposition hearings
  • Assist with preparation for Detention Reviews by gathering and reviewing JPC reports
  • Establish restitution amount by gathering loss claim documentation and reviewing the claim for reimbursement from the newly established victim compensation fund
  • Follow process for reimbursement as established by PAO Finance Department
  • Work with victims or witnesses to obtain medical records and/or other records
  • Locate missing witnesses
  • Review and summarize audio/video evidence, monitor, and preserve social media, prepare reports/charts
  • Review and approve discovery such as 911 calls, in-car video, photos, recorded statements, etc.
  • Identify and telephonically interview witnesses the police have not reached or who refused to cooperate with law enforcement
  • May investigate defense evidence and verify mitigation materials submitted by defense
  • Investigate potential criminal history in other jurisdictions (both in and out of state)
  • Attend and participate in internal case staffing
  • Other assignments and duties as needed.
  • Actively participate in PAO equity work, attending equity trainings and discussions.
  • Provide support for the Equity and Social Justice policy and principles, work with PAO colleagues and management to identify opportunities for improvement.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
  • A successful candidate will possess a desire to learn a wide variety of new skills and be able to adapt to, and work comfortably in, a fast-paced work environment and have knowledge of legal office practices and procedures, particularly in the Juvenile Division
  • Knowledge of juvenile justice system, rules, and procedures is a plus
  • Commitment to Equity and Social Justice work
  • Skill in using computers and a variety of software such as PbK, Word, Adobe Pro, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access; familiarity with JABS, SAWS, JBRS, Accurint and other criminal justice programs a plus
  • Familiarity with various social media platforms, as well as steps to preserve that information
  • Paralegal and/or advocacy experience a plus
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with and respond in a positive, experienced, and helpful manner with diverse individuals
  • Successful candidates will perform a variety of tasks that require the exercise of initiative and independent judgment
  • Ability to anticipate needs of EPU DPAs and appropriately respond
  • Possess analytical and critical thinking skills to make decisions and initiate action
  • Investigatory experience preferred but not required
  • Ability and desire to work with victims and witnesses from all backgrounds, including marginalized populations
  • Bilingual skills a plus
  • Ability to maintain security, confidentiality, and discretion at all times
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills, have a high attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to handle unexpected assignments on short notice
  • Must be receptive to instructions, feedback, and coaching
  • Must have demonstrated predictable, reliable, and timely attendance
  • Commitment to Equity and Social Justice work, including ongoing cultural competence development.
