Job Description | The Old Dominion University F. Ludwig Diehn School of Music seeks qualified candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track Lecturer position in Music Theory and Aural Skills. The Diehn School of Music is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their teaching, research, and service to the diversity and excellence of our academic and musical community. We encourage applications from candidates who will bring a fresh perspective to our existing courses and whose expertise encompasses a broad range of repertoires and methodologies. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities | Candidates must have evidence of experience in teaching music theory and aural skills/ear training at the undergraduate and/or graduate level as well as evidence of ongoing engagement in creative activity and/or research relevant to music theory and aural skills. |
Minimum Qualifications - Education or training | Candidates must have an earned terminal degree in Music Theory, Composition, or other related areas in music by July 25, 2024. |

The cover letter should highlight the candidate’s professional qualifications for coordinating and leading curricular development and innovation within a collegiate Music Theory and Aural Skills sequence. It should also showcase a reflective and evolving pedagogy, address experience in promoting student success among diverse populations, and elucidate the intersection of the candidate’s research, teaching, and pedagogical approach with current topics in the discipline of music theory. Teaching videos, sample syllabi as well as samples of scholarly writing may be requested at a later stage in the search process.
