Description of Work

NOTE:  Employees in these positions will work not more than twenty-five (25) hours per week.


Responsible for the development and solicitation of sales accounts in the meetings and conventions market with a strong focus on the new Muskegon VanDyk Mortgage Convention Center; develop and enhance the sales cycle through identification of prospects to generation of leads and definites; utilization of the sales CRM system, tracing and tracking of all sales accounts/clients; coordinating sales activities and strategies related to individual accounts; working with other external and internal sales and marketing teams to achieve the CVBs sales goals (e.g. bids, presentations, site inspections, trade shows, direct mail, telemarketing programs, etc.); recommend excursions for meetings and convention-related activities and events with assistance from the CVB’s Tourism Aides; and providing accurate and valid statistical sales information/data for CVB reports. 

Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications

1.   Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Sales, Tourism, Public Relations, Communications or related field is required. Professional development training beyond formal education, professional affiliations with industry associations, and prior CVB sales/service experience is preferred; AND
At least five (5) years of demonstrated experiences in the convention/group markets with a proven service and/or sales record; recognition and understanding of meeting, group and visitor markets (e.g., associations, tour operators, etc).

2.    Have a valid Michigan driver’s license.

Physical Conditions / Work Location

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

This position will require inside and outside sales; dexterity in the hands for computer operations; ability to lift at least 50 (fifty) pounds, move exhibit cases, and assemble and disassemble trade show booths. 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Travel (airline, car, and/or motor coach) extensively; make oral presentations before groups (e.g., client groups) on behalf of the CVB (note: usually in competition with other groups making similar presentations at the same time).

EVALUATION CONTENT

The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment.  An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test.  Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check.  Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system.  For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications.  This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.

Life Insurance and AD & D Equal to employee annual salary to next highest $1,000. Max $200,000

Long Term Disability No cost to the employee, employer paid at 66 2/3% of salary after 6 month waiting period

Sick Leave 10 days per year, accumulated .385 days. per pay period
Accrual begins on first day of employment and is available to use on the 90th day of employment.
Annual Leave 13 days, accumulated .500 days per pay period. Increasing to maximum of 24 days with 20 years of eligible County service, see Personnel Rules for accumulation chart. 
Accrual begins on first day of employment and is available to use upon completion of six months of continuous eligible County service.
Sick/Annual Leave Cash Payout Employee may elect up to 40 hours of accumulated vacation and/or sick time to be paid as cash. Future accruals only.

COLA/Longevity All employees are eligible for COLA based on the CPI and must be in pay status as of 12/1. Payment of $250 after 5 years of continuous service as of 12/1. Each subsequent year of service will add $50 to the payment. Maximum payment amount is $1,250
