Job Description

Job Summary

Responsible for performing direct patient care related to hemodialysis treatments under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Responsible for setting-up dialysis equipment and supplies in a safe manner. Collaborates with all members of the team for overall provision of optimal dialysis treatments.

Essential Functions

  • Performs point of care testing as required.
  • Performs all necessary duties to ensure and maintain quality of water used for Hemodialysis and documents as required.
  • Performs all parts of Hemodialysis machine set-up and required dialysate testing.
  • Provides and documents direct care of the patient during hemodialysis treatments under the direction of the RN.
  • Communicates with the patient and other members of the care team information related to the treatment, response to treatment and change in patient status.
  • Cleans patient’s environment / work area / equipment and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department / unit personnel.
  • Maintains various quality safety logs to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.

Qualifications
  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent and one year college education, health care courses preferred;
    OR success in a clinical support role for a minimum of one (1) year.
  • 1 year of relevant experience recent, relevant patient care experience Preferred
  • Patient care experience in a dialysis setting Preferred
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or ARC- Within 90 Days required
  • CRT-Hemodialysis Technician, Certified (CHT) - BONENT Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing Technology- Within 1 1/2 Yrs required Or
  • CRT-Clinical Hemodialysis Technologist, Certified (CCHT) - NNCC Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission- Within 1 1/2 Yrs required
