The Director of Development for the School of Business and Truman State University reports jointly to the Vice President for University Advancement and the Dean of the School of Business. The Director is responsible for oversight of all the fundraising activities within the School and will maintain a portfolio of major gift prospects. Responsibilities: 1. Provide strategic direction, oversight and leadership for the School of Business fundraising efforts, ensuring dollar and participation goals are met within various segments. 2. Maintain a major gifts portfolio of 100 to 150 prospects, developing specific cultivation, involvement, solicitation and stewardship of prospects, with a focus on gifts of $15,000 and above. 3. Provide leadership to engage donors, volunteers and faculty in the University’s Advancement program. 4. In cooperation with the Dean, establish short- and long-term goals for development efforts, including fundraising strategies and building the case for support. 5. Provide leadership and assistance to special initiatives and targeted campaigns as assigned by the Vice President for University Advancement and Dean of the School of Business, including identification, recruitment and equipping of volunteers, organization of regional fundraising events, on-campus committee meetings, periodic reports and other associated duties. 6. Participate in reporting sessions with staff members, University leadership and key volunteers to keep attention focused on the progress of major gift efforts and special initiatives. 7. Assist in the day-to-day Advancement operational issues, needs and management as they arise. Required Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years of significant development experience in higher education or equivalent fundraising program; documented track record of achievement in major giving; excellent written and presentation skills; the ability to work with a diverse University community, including deans and faculty; possess a bachelor’s degree; have the flexibility to travel and work nights and weekends, as needed. Preferred Qualifications: Successful experience in special initiatives and campaigns; ability to prioritize and manage complex projects concurrently; function in a fast-paced, team environment; familiarity with donor software programs.
