The Math Tutor should be comfortable helping students understand assignments, particularly those who need patient instruction in breaking down course material at pace with their learning needs.

The Student Support Services Program is a federally-funded TRIO program, providing academic, career, financial literacy and personal support services to college students with a range of academic needs who are first-generation college, low income, and/or have a disability. The TRIO Learning Lab is home to the program's tutoring and study center where professional tutors are available in Writing, Math, Science, and the Social Sciences. The tutor will work with students in-person, one-on-one. Additionally, the tutor will provide tutoring via Zoom to students as needed. Primary Duties/Responsibilities: The Math Tutor can expect to work with students taking a range of introductory level math courses, as well as with students majoring in math or math-related disciplines and taking upper-level courses. The tutor is expected to act as a learning generalist helping students understand assignments, break down tasks, and model effective study skills as well as competency in math subject areas. The tutor will most often work with students one-on-one and will also work with groups of students as needed. The tutor will be primed on the pedagogical approaches preferred for work with TRIO students, but will be expected to have the competency to effectively tutor students starting immediately. Tutors are also invited to select program events to interface with the TRIO student community, as well as periodic professional development. The tutor should be willing to utilize our online scheduling program for managing appointments with students and keeping basic records of student contact and progress.

TRIO Tutoring Services are available Mondays through Thursdays, for 14-15 weeks each semester, beginning in mid-September. The Math Tutor is asked to work, on average, two to three days per week, for a total of 8-10 hours.
