Job Description:

AIM Photonics is one of nine United States Department of Defense Manufacturing Innovation Institutes which are industry-driven, public-private partnerships that focus the nation's premiere capabilities and expertise to capture critical global manufacturing leadership. AIM Photonics is headquartered at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Albany, New York. The AIM Photonics Test Assembly and Packaging facility (TAP) is new state of the art electronic photonic packaging facility in Rochester, NY. Photonics is an exciting area which is rapidly increasing in the number of applications. Photonic packaging is 90% of the cost of photonic products and can be a differentiator in the success of the final product. 

We are looking for a highly skilled individual with a PhD in technology, science, photonics or equivalent fields with proven success in managing people and complex projects, to take a leading role in the TAP facility. This is an important area of photonics and a great growth opportunity for the individual. The position will have a lot of customer contact in establishing packaging solutions for emerging photonic products. In addition, this position will involve developing grant proposals to secure funding.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership in electronic photonic packaging and supervising development focused staff
  • Consulting with customers on packaging build requirements and troubleshooting issues
  • Seeking funding opportunities and writing grant proposals 
  • Driving development work leading to publications
  • Generating technical marketing material to advance TAP communications and strengthen the customer base 
  • Benchmarking TAP processes and developing recommendations for improvements
  • Developing a packaging roadmap for TAP


Requirements:

Minimum Requirements for Lead Development Electronic Photonic Test Assembly and Packaging Engineer

  • PhD degree in technology, science, photonics or equivalent fields
  • Provide leadership, oversight and direction to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the Institution's goals and strategies.
  • Design and implement operating strategies, plans and procedures to assure smooth functioning of SUNY Poly's Test Assembly and Packaging facility working with other parts of the organization. 
  • Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication. Complete performance management feedback and goals per requirements for any direct reports.   

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • An experienced professional in photonics who will be able to lead the development side of the TAP organization.  This is an opportunity for a technical individual to lead a strong development facility. The tool set is completely new with many tools having custom capabilities. 

This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual background checks.
