BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE: 

The duties for these positions will be as follows:

• Orients and mentors nursing personnel to implement the school health program.
• Carries out communicable disease prevention and infection control based on current guidelines

for standard precautions; prevention of blood borne pathogens exposure, and hazardous.

• Promotes positive linkages and referral mechanisms to community providers for a range of

services dealing with child and adolescent health.

• Assist with ongoing continuing education programs for staff to facilitate their meeting of the

requirements for licensure through the Massachusetts Department of Education and maintain.

• Serves as a positive professional role model for colleagues
• Oversees compliance issues for all schools on their team, monthly report, principals report,

immunizations, screenings, medication co-signing and epi-pen training

• Is a member of a Springfield task force, attends meetings and reports back to group
• Attends monthly meetings with Nurse Leader
• Provides telephone support for designated buildings to answer questions on Standards of

Nursing Practice

• Facilitates implementation of new information regarding policies and procedures
• Assists with nurse evaluation process.
• Conduct Instructor Essentials courses and monitor, update, and coach instructors.
• Ensure that the TC can conduct quality Instructor Essentials courses, course monitoring, and instructor updates within the TC.

Qualifications: Curently a SPS License school nurse.  Professional license preferred
