Summary

The Department of Executive Services (DES) has an opening for a Communications Specialist II (Audiovisual Technician) in the Inquest Program. The successful candidate will have extensive experience and ability to operate, maintain, analyze, and troubleshoot various types of audiovisual and computer equipment, be able to think strategically and creatively, and have experience using online cloud-based platforms for livestreaming, document sharing, data management, and other tasks. This is not a media relations/public information officer role. Successful candidates will demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, composure, and ability to learn on the fly in a fast-paced environment that requires frequent reprioritization of tasks. The successful candidate will be expected to work on-site during inquest proceedings, but may arrange to telework at other times.

KEY DELIVERABLES AND EXPECTATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate skill and ability to:
  • Schedule, operate, and troubleshoot livestreams using the County's preferred platform, Zoom Enterprise. Candidates should have demonstrated knowledge, experience, or training in hosting and managing large-scale webinars or other virtual and/or hybrid gatherings.
  • Set up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot professional- and consumer-grade video cameras, webcams, video switchers, and related equipment and accessories. Experience operating in large meeting or studio spaces is highly desirable.
  • Set up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot professional- and consumer-grade audio mixers, microphones, and related equipment and accessories. Experience operating sound in live environments is highly desirable.
  • Set up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot other audiovisual equipment including video projectors, large-format monitors, and public address/live sound equipment.
  • Assist with preparation and teardown of Inquest Program remote courtroom as assigned.
  • Compress, duplicate, transfer, and archive audio and video clips and other data as necessary.
  • Provide support for other communications or program activities during times when inquests are not in session, as assigned.
  • Lift, hold, and carry audiovisual equipment or other items weighing up to 40 pounds.

We are looking for candidates who:
  • Have a background in audiovisual technology, communications, public relations, journalism, public policy, or a related field.
  • Have expertise in operating, analyzing, maintaining, and troubleshooting various types of audiovisual equipment.
  • Have expertise in livestreaming or live broadcast operations, including in-depth knowledge of audiovisual production techniques.
  • Are knowledgeable about equity and social justice principles and practices, and understanding of the effects of place, race, policy and systems-based inequities on marginalized communities and populations.
  • Have expertise in effective communications principles, methods, and materials.
  • Are skilled with Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  • Are skilled with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Premiere and Audition non-linear editing software.
  • Are able to synthesize and communicate complex, technical information in writing, orally, and visually to a variety of audiences, including policy makers and elected officials, diverse ethnic-cultural populations, employees, and the general public.
  • Are able to successfully work within tight deadlines to ensure that livestreams, recordings, and other content are available to stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Are able to work in an environment that may include exposure to intense, sensitive, and potentially upsetting testimony or content.
  • Candidates with experience in web design (HTML, CSS, and/or Sitecore or other web content management systems), cloud-based video storage platforms (e.g. Vimeo), and/or high-volume data storage platforms (e.g. Microsoft Azure), are highly desirable.
