Our Progressive Care Unit 3-4 is a 20-bed adult intermediate care unit providing a higher flexible acuity level of patient care. PCU nurses have expert assessment skills to provide constant observation andmonitoring with a lower patient to nurse ratio that corresponds to patient acuity levels.A stepdown sister unit of MSICU, our specialties include complex post op surgical care, acute exacerbation of medical conditions, post rapid response care and conditions requiring frequent monitoring. Specialized training includes CORE EKG classes, Critical Care medications, ACLS, Ventilator/Respiratory class, and PD. We work closely with the MSICU and encourage cross training experiences for career growth. We incorporate a primary care nursing model with a team approach to meet the needs of the patient population. What you will do:

  • Therapeutic med/surge nursing interventions and hands on skills including class I telemetry, cardiac and vasopressive drips, respiratory/ventilation support and more.
  • Patient education, goal setting, critical thinking and care planning.
  • Collaborative team approach: SNAP rounds and Vent rounds with interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide excellent care and practice per clinical services standards of care guidelines.
  • Utilizing the Nursing Process, plans, directs and supervises the care of patients in addition to being involved in the provision of direct care of patients and families.
  • Participate in precepting and mentoring students and new staff.

Education, Training, Experience, Certification and Licensure:

  • Registered Professional Nurse Licensure in the State of New York.
  • One-year Critical Care Experience required.
  • **Graduate Nurses or RN’s with less than 1 year of experience please apply to the GN residency postings.
  • Maintains current BLS/CPR and ACLS certification.
  • Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.
  • Cross training opportunities are encouraged.

Physical Demands:

  • Medium work: must be able to lift 25 pounds frequently; occasionally lifting maximum of 50 pounds. Will require ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat and reach.

Supervised By:

  • Team Leader, Clinical Coordinator, Unit Manager, and Clinical Services/Nursing Administration.
