Job Summary:

The Processing Laboratory Manager oversees the laboratory responsible for blood sample processing in support of clinical trials. In addition to performing human peripheral blood samples for FDA regulated clinical vaccine or drug trials, including all regulatory aspects associated with clinical trials as needed, the lab manager will supervise 2-3 technicians performing human blood sample processing. The lab manager will review study documents and provide comments and assessments related to the study's lab processes, logistics, technician effort estimates, ensure the proper storage, inventory control, and shipment of samples under their designated storage conditions to the appropriate locations for further analysis, and ensure the proper maintenance of equipment, ordering supplies, and preparing reagents. The lab manager is responsible for preparing labels or research blood draw kits for the clinical study team and/or verifying their accuracy, for completing all SUNY Upstate Medical University required training, following all outlined safety procedures, and is expected to work in a manner that is consistent with meeting Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practice requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s Degree in life sciences (e.g. biology, chemistry) and 5 years laboratory experience. Experience handling human blood and other human samples in a research or regulated lab setting. Experience with data systems. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Experience managing a laboratory. Experience supervising technical staff. Experience reviewing clinical research study protocols and other documents (Investigator Brochure's, SOPs, Lab Manuals etc).

Work Days:

M-F with occasional weekend or evening hours as needed
