SUMMARY:

Seattle & King County Public Health Nursing is seeking a motivated nurse to join our Midway Public Health's Parent Child Health team, which provides Maternity Support Services/Infant Case Management (MSS/ICM) and Women Infant and Children (WIC).  This position is based out of a South King County Public Health Centers.  Public Health Centers provide patient centered services to pregnant and parenting women, infants, and children that are either co-located with reproductive health services for men, women, and teens or embedded within a community health clinic. Maternity Support Services and Infant Case Management are two components of the First Steps Program. Maternity Support Services provides services to women throughout the continuum of pregnancy, including postpartum care. Infant Case Management provides services to infants and parents until the infant is one year old. Components of practice will include family assessment, care planning, case management, education/support, documentation, and coordination of care with community providers.


Women's Infants and Children is a supplemental food program for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding infants and children and also provides: Health screening, nutrition and health education, breastfeeding promotion and support as well as helps getting other services and monthly benefits for nutritious foods.

  
Primary responsibilities:

  • Obtain and document health history; make nursing diagnosis based on nursing assessment.
  • Documentation requires electronic charting: EPIC and Cascades
  • Provide expertise regarding public health nursing scope, practice and policy on a variety of levels.
  • Provide support services to the client that links/refers to other Health Department staff and community providers/partners, while assuring access and continuity of care.
  • Provide program planning, monitoring local work plans and progress toward program goals.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities to meet laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Provide training, orientation and education to staff, clients, students and the community.
  • Provide birth control and pregnancy options counseling as needed.


Competitive candidates will have:
  • Knowledge of public health nursing principles and processes; human systems; infectious disease management and control; health care system structure and function.
  • Knowledge of child and adult learning and health education techniques and principles.
  • Ability to travel and work at other locations.
  • Ability to perform comprehensive nursing assessments and successfully engaging clients in a plan of care.
  • Ability to work in homes and community settings without on-site supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients; and working with culturally and socio-economically diverse populations.
  • Ability to provide reproductive health education, services, and community outreach.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment, multi-task, and demonstrate attention to detail, crisis intervention, problem solving skills, and effective time management.
  • Bilingual Spanish or Russian is highly desired.

 
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
  • Washington State Registered Nurse License in good standing
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing
  • Documentation of current BLS CPR certification with AED training prior to start date
  • Willing to provide options counseling
  • Washington State Driver's License in good standing
  • Letter of Interest 
 

Work Location & Schedule:

This posting includes two TLT positions. For both of these positions, candidates must have the ability to provide services via phone/video during COVID precautions.

One position will be based out of HealthPoint Community Clinic/Midway Public Health which is located at 26401 Pacific Highway South, Des Moines, WA 98198. Please note this is both a field and office nursing position. The typical working hours will be Monday-Wednesday 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Thursday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with rotating Saturday hours of that will be determined based on rotation. On weeks that require Saturday work another day of the week will be flexed to maintain the 40 hour workweek. As with all public health positions you may work outside of the aforementioned days and hours based on operational needs and can be deployed to other sites. This position is non-exempt and therefore subject to the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
 

The second position is on our South Regional Teams. These two teams serve multiple sites throughout South King County. You may also work at other locations on an as needed basis depending on staffing needs. Field/home visiting is also an expectation of this position. This TLT position is 1.0 FTE for South Regional Team, 40 hours per week. Work days and hours will be determined at time of hire, may vary based on client service needs, and may include some early morning, evening, and weekend hours. This position is non-exempt and therefore subject to the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
 
Pre-screen Interviews will be conducted on August 20, 2020.
Final Interviews will be conducted on August 24, 2020.
