Leadership Development Director

The Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce is hiring a Leadership Development Director to lead talent development programming that includes Chattanooga’s premiere career development program, Leadership Chattanooga, and our Protégé mentorship program for early career professionals that connects participants with key influencers, among other programs making a difference for the future of our community. 

Our Leadership Development Director serves as a member of the Marketing and Engagement team, working closely with the VP, Marketing and Engagement, Leadership Development Coordinator, other team members and key volunteers to develop and manage an aligned talent engagement system for greater Chattanooga. 

Your work will focus on the professional development of early career, mid-career, and established professionals through programs already mentioned - Leadership Chattanooga and Protégé – as well as Young Professionals of Chattanooga and our Leadership Chattanooga Alumni Association. In addition, this role works to engage and retain newcomers to greater Chattanooga through the ChattaNewbies program.  

The position requires the ability to develop trust within diverse communities and constituents, build effective stakeholder collaborations, craft talent and workforce programming, influence stakeholders and organize public awareness campaigns.

The successful candidate must also have excellent attention to detail, be highly organized, disciplined in managing their time and task list, have a strong understanding of project management concepts, and effective approaches in utilizing the talents of others in accomplishing their own goals. 

 

A sampling of the job duties includes, but is not limited to:

  • Maintaining innovative programs, events and content by providing insight, management and coaching to Young Professionals of Chattanooga, Protégé Chattanooga, Leadership Chattanooga, Leadership Chattanooga Alumni Association and ChattaNewbies  
  • Developing, planning and executing events, programs and content to engage and attract businesses and individuals for Leadership Chattanooga, Protégé Chattanooga, YPC, LCAA and ChattaNewbies 
  • Working with Chamber leadership to develop marketing and business development strategies to expand and increase awareness and penetration of programs and services to businesses and individuals 
  • Actively engaging, cultivating and managing relationships with volunteers to ensure support of programs, events, and other projects  
  • Developing strategic vision for print and electronic communications including program marketing collateral materials and Chamber’s website 
  • Securing sponsorships from local businesses to support the programs 
  • Identifying and promoting collaboration with other agencies involved in this work 
  • Along with the VP, overseeing the day-to-day activities of the talent engagement team including the Talent Coordinator
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Project Management – the individual demonstrates the ability to manage an educational or networking project from concept to implementation, including staff and volunteer management, curriculum development, constructing and delivering public presentations, building strategic collaborations, and managing logistical demands.  
  • Creativity – the individual demonstrates the ability to develop creative content in a wide variety of mediums including written, graphic, web, and video 
  • Written and Verbal Communications – the individual possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and formal presentations.  
  • Budgeting and financial management – the individual develops budgets for all talent development and engagement programs and is responsible for managing revenues and expenditures to meet the budget 
  • Judgment – the individual routinely makes independent decisions, exhibits sound judgment, makes timely decisions, and accepts responsibility for results 

 

The position requires a 4-year degree plus three years of applicable work experience in progressively responsible roles, with experience in employee and volunteer management preferred. Commensurate education and experience will be considered.
