Comprehensive Planning Manager $8,252 - $10,032/monthly 

The Comprehensive Planning Section of Permit Sonoma (PRMD) is primarily responsible for the development, update, and implementation of the County's General Plan and Local Coastal Plan. In order to develop the County's new General Plan, PRMD's executive management team is seeking a highly skilled manager to create a plan that is both compliant with new state requirements, as well as complimentary to and consistent with the County's Climate Action Plan, Sonoma Clean Power, Sustainable Groundwater Management, and other existing plans and directives. The Comprehensive Planning Manager position is an exciting new opportunity to take the next step in your career and become a leading member in a team of dedicated and driven policy makers.

 

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Planning, and managing a team of 9, the Comprehensive Planning Manager oversees section operations and assists in formulating the County's long-range planning goals. In addition to general oversight of budget, personnel, and management practices and improvements, the Comprehensive Planning Manager confers with County and State agencies to manage the development of specific plans, zoning code and ordinances, and other planning projects, policies, and procedures. In order to effectively manage section operations, recreate the General Plan, and adopt new plans, the ideal candidate will be an effective leader who possesses:

• Experience updating and/or creating a County and/or City General Plan

• Extensive knowledge of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and other local, state, and federal guidelines regarding land use; knowledge of coastal planning and possession of American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification are desirable

• Demonstrated experience developing creative and alternate solutions to address management and controversial project challenges

• The proven ability to exercise considerable discretion and independent judgment in the prioritization and coordination of mandates, goals, and objectives

• Strong personnel management experience, with the ability to connect with staff and be a proponent of staff development

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively lead teams and collaborate with the public, governing bodies, and other agencies
