Registered Nurse (RN), SANE Program

 

SCOPE OF ROLE

Reporting to the Director, Psychiatry Services, the Registered Nurse (RN), SANE Program will provide comprehensive medical examinations of sexually and/or physically abused children. You will be a key member of the SANE team, demonstrating empathy and compassion to all patients. The RN, Sane Program ensures timely and accurate collection of forensic evidence by collaborating with physicians, local law enforcement, city and county prosecutors and victim advocates to provide complete care for patients, ensure safety, and maintain chain of evidence.

 

HOW YOU’LL SUCCEED ____________________________________________________________________

·       Perform child sexual assault/abuse exams following the “Ohio Protocol for Sexual Assault Forensic and Medical Examination”; test, treat, and follow-up, as needed.

·       Serve as an advocate and consultant for medical needs of sexually abused children for all disciplines related to the investigation of child abuse.

·       Accurately and professionally document medical evaluations.

·       Attend multi-disciplinary patient case review meetings with team members.

·       Identify emergency medical conditions and make appropriate referrals.

·       Demonstrate ability to appropriately use equipment, including cameras for the documentation of injury and collection of evidence.

·       Maintain and store medical records in a safe and secure manner.

·       Maintain and monitor inventory and medical supplies.

·       Provide court testimony, as required.

·       Represent Ashtabula Area Child Advocacy Center to the public and the medical community through forums, workshops, and presentations and be available for tours of the Children’s Advocacy Center when needed.

·       Perform Quality Assurance functions to include; maintenance of chain of evidence, appropriateness of documentation, appropriateness of referrals, preparing and interpreting as needed.

·       Maintains all aspects of HIPAA, promoting patient confidentiality and right to privacy.

·       May be required to perform remote services as determined by Signature Health.

·       Adherence and completion of compliance training provided by Signature Health.

·       Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned in line with the mission of Ashtabula Area Child Advocacy Center and of Signature Health.

·       Comply with all agency policies and procedures.

·       Maintain all aspects of HIPAA, promoting patient confidentiality and right to privacy.

·       May be required to perform telehealth services as determined by Signature Health.

·       Adherence and completion of compliance training provided by Signature Health.

·       Responsible for and completes all productivity/documentation requirements.

·       Participate in all assigned staff meetings and staff development programs.

·       Demonstrate appropriate attendance and punctuality in adherence with Signature Health policies.

·       Other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE ______________________________________________________________

·       Completion of an approved program in registered nursing required.

·       Valid unencumbered RN license in the state of Ohio required.

·       Completion of approved Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner or obtain within the first 6 months of employment (training to be paid for by The Children’s Advocacy Center) required.

·       5+ years’ of clinical nursing experience with emphasis on pediatric nursing required.

·       American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

·       Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

·       Formal study of childhood issues surrounding development, cognition, and special needs, public speaking experience, emergency nursing experience or work experience in a related field.

WORKING CONDITIONS ___________________________________________________________________

·       Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/clinical work environment.

·       While hours of operation are generally standard, flexibility to work evenings and extended hours may be required.

·       Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work. 

·       Hearing: adequate to hear clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.

·       Speaking: adequate to speak to clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.

·       Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.

·       Physical effort required: occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 15 pounds, unassisted.

·       Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens while performing job duties.

·       Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular workday.

·       Sufficient dexterity to operate a PC and other office equipment.
