Biologist

Biologist will implement wildlife habitat restoration projects in floodplain/riparian areas, ongoing operations and maintenance of the mitigation areas. Need self-starter who can work independently and as team player, someone with aptitude in ArcMap, botany, maintenance skills, and ability to supervise others.

Requirements:

Empathetic, non-judgmental, friendly and supportive overall attitude. Must have a valid Idaho Driver's License and be insurable under the Tribal Insurance. Must demonstrate basic knowledge of the unique sovereign status of Indian Tribes and respect for Kootenai Culture. Must comply with the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho's Driving Policy, Drug-Free Workplace Policy, and Criminal Background Investigation. Pass a pre-employment drug screen and be subject to random drug testing throughout employment. Must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19.

Knowledge and Skills:

Implementation of wildlife habitat projects to protect, mitigate, and enhance fish and wildlife habitats on lands within the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho aboriginal territory. Supports the Wildlife Division in wildlife habitat restoration, based on native fish and wildlife requirements (i.e., ecological and floodplain/riverine processes), and weed management to improve wildlife program efficiency. Organize, schedule and implement natural resource surveys (i.e., botanical and population data) on mitigation projects, and includes monitoring and evaluation of wildlife habitat. Assists the Wildlife Division in the organization, scheduling, training and guidance of wildlife technicians and seasonal employees.

Qualifications:

Requires a B.S. degree in natural resource management (or closely related field) and 2 years of related professional experience or a M.S. degree in natural resource management (or closely related field) and 1 year of related professional experience. Knowledge of botany, plant and animal surveys, monitoring and related statistical/data analysis. Must pass drug test, have a valid driver’s license and be tribally insurable. Also, position will be required to obtain a valid passport within the 90 day probationary period.
