Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is a progressive member owned utility with a service area that spreads from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. REC serves over 165,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties.

OVERVIEW

To ensure the safe and reliable operation of Rappahannock Electric Cooperative’s electrical distribution and

transmission systems in the most economical method possible through prudent and orderly planning and analysis.

 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for the transmission and substation planning needs of the Cooperative,
  2. Provide information, support, and review in planning for, preparing, and carrying out system

improvements as required in the Cooperative’s Construction Work Plan and Long Range Planning

studies

  1. Perform system modeling and analysis for the Cooperative’s electrical system; recommend system

improvements as required

  1. Perform system protection and sectionalizing studies for the Cooperative's transmission system
  2. Evaluate proposed generator interconnections; evaluate and recommend projects required to serve

proposed new large loads

  1. Interact with Power Suppliers to foster and maintain working relationships, to coordinate and

cooperate in areas of system planning and growth, and to interchange information of mutual interest

  1. Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Must be knowledgeable of general distribution and/or transmission engineering in the areas of system

coordination, system modeling and analysis, power quality analysis, and Work Plan preparation. Familiarity with spreadsheets, database programs, and engineering programs is required. Must possess basic computer skills, to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including, but not limited to: Outlook, Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint as required by job responsibilities.

 

A four-year electrical engineering degree or equivalent from an ABET accredited college or university required.

 

A minimum of eight (8) years of utility experience in distribution and/or transmission planning engineering as well as experience in system modeling, analysis, protection, and coordination is required.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS

A Virginia Professional Engineering License (PE) desired. Knowledge in motor start calculations and generator

interconnections is preferred.
