General Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Special Education Teacher, The Special Education Job Coach provides training and support for students to ensure success during work experiences.  The Special Education Job Coach, consistent with the individual education plan (IEP) and transition plan, assists the Special Education Teacher to secure job placements, analyze and modify job tasks; provide employability skills instruction; conduct student observations and assessments; and work collaboratively with worksite employees.

Reporting directly to the Special Education Teacher, the Special Education Paraeducator is responsible for supporting and assisting students with disabilities in various school settings. The Special Education Paraeducator, consistent with the individual education plan (IEP) or individual family service plan (IFSP) assists the Special Education Teacher with lesson plan preparation; one-on-one and small group instruction; classroom management; student observation and assessment; and communication with parents and staff.

Salary:
The full salary range for this position is $18.96 - $23.57 per hour. Newly hired paraeducators will be placed on steps 1 - 3 of our salary schedule ($18.96 - $20.29 per hour). Step placement will be based on years of verified paraeducator or teacher experience.  

Assignment/Location:
We are recruiting for three Special Education Job Coach/Paraeducator to serve our STEPS program in Longview, WA. These positions are 33.5 hours per week, school year schedule.  

Essential Functions/Other Functions

Essential Functions:
Special Education Job Coach

  1. Assist the Special Education Teacher, consistent with IEP goals and transition plans to secure job placements; provide instruction of employability skills; student observation and assessment; and work collaboratively with worksite employees.
  2. Coach students on vocational skills and on-the-job skills to enhance readiness for employment.
  3. Analyze and modify job tasks to student skill level.
  4. Supervise students.
  5. Transport students to community worksites.
  6. Observe students; collect data and report student progress.
  7. Maintain accurate data collection records.
  8. Communicate with staff and parents as instructed by the Special Education Teacher.
  9. Participate in staff meetings, inservice programs, workshops and seminars.
  10. Participate as a member of the education team. May attend parent conferences.
Special Education Paraeducator
  1. Assist the Special Education Teacher, consistent with IEP or IFSP goals, in lesson plan preparation; one-on-one & small group instruction; classroom management; student observation & assessment; communication with parents and staff, in a variety of school settings.
  2. Supervise students.
  3. Collect data and report student progress.
  4. Maintain accurate data collection records.
  5. Communicate with staff and parents as instructed by the Special Education Teacher.
  6. Provide positive behavior management support, consistent with the IEP or IFSP.
  7. Attend to the physical needs of students, including moving and positioning students & assisting with personal hygiene needs.
  8. Participate in staff meetings, inservice programs, workshops and seminars.
  9. Participate as a member of the education team. May attend parent conferences.
Other Functions:
  1. Other duties as assigned

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Must meet one of the following educational requirements:
    • Associate's Degree OR
    • 48 sem./72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university; OR
    • Passing score of 455 on the ParaPro Assessment; OR
    • Passing score of 220 on the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment; OR
    • 65% on The Master Teacher, Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience in a special education classroom setting.
  2. Knowledge of programs and services for students with disabilities.

Working Conditions/Employment Requirements

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  1. Classroom setting, may move from classroom to classroom to provide services.
  2. Worksite environment, may move from area to area to provide services.
  3. Provide assistance and attend to the physical needs of students including moving and positioning students and assisting with personal hygiene needs, including but not limited to: tube feeding, catheterization, changing diapers, toileting.
  4. Regular attendance during assigned work schedule.
  5. Travel within ESD 112 region for meetings and trainings.
  6. Hold a valid driver's license.
Employment Requirements:
  1. Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
  2. Within three years of employment meet Washington State Core Competencies for paraeducators as defined in WAC 392-172A-02090 (f).
