Mission:

The mission of the Agile Development Manager is to lead, mentor, guide, coach, advocate, and direct two agile software development teams. This person will lead development teams focused on building IAM components that are used across every EBSCO product allowing customers and end-users to authenticate and use EBSCO systems.

This role is primarily focused on the leadership and development of people and engineering practices that enable self-directed teams to successfully execute against their goals within an Agile organization and in support of corporate vision and strategy.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • As a servant leader, manage 2 development teams of 6-8 developers each, with a focus on team culture, quality, and operations.
  • Work directly with the scrum master, product owner and business representatives to provide scalable solutions from inception to operation.
  • Attract, recruit, retain, and develop top engineering talent.
  • Work directly with teams and architects to design and maintain software solutions for identity and access management
  • Implement and maintain measurements across teams to monitor and sustain product quality.
  • Own the tracking of current cloud infrastructure costs, forecast cost increases, and drive cost savings efforts.
  • Stay abreast of industry and technology trends relevant to software engineering and IAM.
  • Review the performance of individual team members and provide effective coaching for improvement.
  • Hold regular meetings with each team to analyze metrics and understand how their components are operating in all environments.
  • Work with architecture to evaluate vendors and 3rd party tools specific to identity and access management
  • Foster a growth mind-set in all employees. 
  • Enable software craftsmanship and innovation.
  • Advocate for the teams and promote their successes, celebrate their failures, and share key learning throughout the organization.
  • Lead accountability, autonomy, empowerment and manage the appropriate boundaries to achieve the result of having self-directed work teams.
  • Live the principles behind the Agile Manifesto and SAFe framework in all interactions and equip the team to do the same.

 

 

Role-Based Competencies:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience leading software development teams with a high degree of familiarity with Agile/SAFe software development framework.
  • Outstanding logical/structured analytical ability to effectively understand and decompose product requirements into detailed stories and specifications.
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented, responsible, strong collaboration skills, ability to prioritize and re-prioritize quickly.
  • Strong sense of ownership and desire to solve complex technical challenges.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 10+ years’ experience in software development
  • 3+ years’ experience as a senior team lead or manager in an agile SW development environment
  • 3+ years’ experience in agile/Scrum/Kanban/SAFe
  • 2 years’ experience with Java development
  • Proven track record in fostering, grooming, and growing self-governed teams
  • Proven track record in attracting new talent and retaining key talent
  • Conflict resolution and coaching
  • Change management and coaching
  • Ability to quickly understand and assess technical aspects of our products and components
  • Ability to advise on best practices (architecture, implementation, team dynamics, etc.)

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of AWS infrastructure services (EC2, RDS, S3, Route53, ECR/ECS, etc) and/or AWS certification
  • Experience with CI/CD/CO tools such as Git, Jenkins, Artifactory, Docker, Ansible, Chef, DataDog, SumoLogic, CloudFormation or similar
  • Solid knowledge of networking and security best practices
  • Excellent understanding of DevOps culture with heavy automation focus
  • Knowledge and experience with microservices architectures
  • Proven ability to work within a distributed team environment
  • Experience managing distributed teams across several time zones
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) and Automated Unit Testing
