As a Mechanical Engineer at USNR, you will design machines for sawmills, plywood mills, and other wood processing plants.
Successful candidates will have a strong aptitude for mechanical systems, and will be unafraid to get grease under their fingernails.
Responsibilities:

  • Assembly and component part design for complex mechanical equipment
  • Customize product line to suit the customer requirements in a project-based environment
  • Complete engineering calculations and analysis as required (strength, motion, fatigue, power)
  • Review technical data, measurements and specifications, and translate this information into appropriate designs and products
  • Review related equipment and market requirements to make design modifications for continuous product improvement
  • Prepare or interpret hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, and electrical device circuits
  • May participate in research and development of new product applications
  • Interact with internal groups (controls engineering, optimization engineering, service, manufacturing) to ensure designs and specifications meet the company's integration requirements
  • Assists customers and field service personnel with start-up commissioning and troubleshooting
  • Occasional travel to customer sites to finalize project requirements or assist in commissioning equipment is required
  • Create shop drawings to be used by manufacturing to produce equipment.
  • Check drawings produced by other engineers.
  • Travel to customer sites to support equipment start-up.

    Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a Mechanical Technologist Diploma with experience
  • Experience in the design, analysis and drafting of machinery
  • Specialized skills in one or more of these areas is an asset: hydraulics, pneumatics, drives, fabrication and machining processes, materials, robotics
  • 3-5 years of experience working with SolidWorks 3D CAD system
  • Sawmill industry or material handling experience is an asset
