Hospital Engineering and Maintenance Technician

The Engineering and Maintenance Technician assists/leads all programs involving the operation and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and hospital grounds.

Job Responsibilities:
Assist Supervisor to ensure the smooth operations of the engineering and maintenance department
Schedule and expedite operations and repairs, alterations and additions as needed
Inspect all equipment and buildings regularly
Maintain preventative maintenance records as required
High proficiency in HVAC controls and operations – Certification preferred or willingness to pursue
Clear understanding of plumbing basics and shut-off controls
Prefer experience with gas boilers, chillers and air-handling equipment
Assist with fire safety program, including fire alarm systems & fire drills, sprinkler systems and smoke detectors
Responsible to all departments regarding equipment and keeps them in standard working condition
Supports the maintenance and testing of emergency power systems including generator recordkeeping
Makes runs as required to attend to hospital business and includes call on Care-A-Van runs
Maintains landscaping of grounds/sprinkler systems
Establish and maintain effective vendor relationships and assists with coordinating vendor work within the hospital buildings/grounds
Support and model the hospital mission, vision, goals and initiatives
Shares call time after normal working hours “mandatory”
Subject to emergency call
All other duties as reasonably assigned by the Supervisor

Education:
High School diploma or GED
Training and Experience:
High School diploma or GED and a minimum of 3 year experience working with complex mechanical equipment.
HVAC certification preferred

Must be well organized and a self-starter, ability to complete tasks on your own
Detail-oriented, professional attitude, reliable
Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Standing for extended periods of time
Talking and hearing to give and receive information
Work inside and/or outside
Prolonged, extensive or considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching.
Exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment.
May be exposed to toxic chemicals. Works in precarious or high locations (ladders, scaffolding etc.)
Is subject to many interruptions and environmental noise. Climbing/work at above ground level, must be able to use ladders and other equipment for elevated work.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
