The WEA Organizer/Grants Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Executive Director. This is a statewide position and part of the WEASO professional staff.
Major emphases of this position are grant application, fulfillment, and management, as well as membership growth. This person will be responsible for overseeing the acquisition, implementation, tracking, accounting, and reporting of grants obtained from the NEA, NCUEA, NCSEA or other entities. Often this person will be the lead staff person to carry out the grant work, but not necessarily in every situation (i.e. media grant). This person will work with other staff, governance leaders, and members to assist with grant-related efforts. This position will be accountable for defining—in collaboration with NEA, and WEA governance, local leaders, and staff—metrics for membership growth and retention and reaching or exceeding those metrics.
This position may be located in the Cheyenne headquarters office, a satellite office in another area of the state, or operate remotely. There is an expectation of significant travel 75+% to every area of Wyoming.
The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Professional Development: Many of the grants require a professional development component. This person provides either direct support or identifies other expertise to assist in professional development for members related, or not related to grant activities. Such as:

Events Planner: Often grant requirements include events, including but not limited to luncheons, building site visits, tabling opportunities, and conferences (Summer Institute, ESP Leadership Pipeline, etc.). In collaboration with staff and leaders this position may:
Communications: Although some support may be provided from the WEA Communications Department, it is the intent of this position to carry out communications and promotions as related to grants including but not limited to:
Member Engagement Coordinator: Collaborate with staff and leaders to lead or assist with various initiatives such as:

Other Requirements: The position requires superior verbal and interpersonal skills, a high standard of responsiveness to member needs, a commitment to teamwork, and demonstrated problem solving abilities. Willingness to work nights and weekends and the ability to travel are essential. The position also requires a rapid learner who is adaptable to changing circumstances and competing priorities and has the ability to interact productively with diverse constituencies in a demanding and complicated environment.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Tier 1 (Essential): Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written). Strong personal and professional characteristics such as flexibility, integrity, assertiveness, decisiveness and a sense of responsibility. Ability to motivate and organize individuals to action. Ability to build a consensus around issues. Demonstrated capacity to analyze complex issues, develop and implement programs, write appropriate reports, and make prudent recommendations. Demonstrated capacity to adapt effectively to education and organizational change. Effective organizational, teamwork and time management skills. Advocate for public education. Knowledge of current education environment, structure, and issues. Effective training and presentation skills.
Tier 2 (Significant): Experience in Wyoming public education, such as working in a Wyoming school district. Experience an advocacy organization with similar goals and objectives as the WEA. Experience in any of the following areas of association work; organizing, member advocacy, collective bargaining and collaboration, conflict management and consensus building, political action and legislative activities, coalition building. Positive attitude and openness toward continual learning and self-development.
