Job Description Summary
A postdoctoral position is available within the laboratory of Dr. Mohamed Al-Shabrawey at the Eye Research Institute of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. The research in this position centers on neurovascular dysfunction in diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. Specifically, it aims to investigate the role of bioactive lipids and their interaction with other signaling pathways involved in both retinal endothelial and neuronal damage. Techniques involved include cell culture, protein quantification assays, Imaging (one/two-photon and confocal imaging), Assessment of retinal endothelial cell barrier function, functional assessment of retina by ERG and OKR, intraocular injection in experimental animals.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or M.D. degree
  • Minimum of 3 first-authored peer-reviewed publications
  • Research experience with the retina

The Oakland University Eye Research Institute (ERI) was founded in 1968. Since then, the ERI has made significant contributions to our understanding of the normal function of various ocular tissues, as well as the causes of ocular diseases such as macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, and pediatric eye disease. Recently, the ERI has partnered with the Eye Research Center (ERC), founded by OUWB School of Medicine, to promote effective interactions among scientists and clinicians who engage in high-impact vision research and discovery related to eye diseases.
