Overview

Grounds and Building Maintenance - Temporary Summer Worker Program 2024

 

We have numerous employment opportunities, ideally for students that are currently enrolled in a two or four year college program, to work in various trade shops and/or on our Grounds crew to provide assistance in support of summer projects and campus renovations.  This program typically runs from early June through end of August (flexible end date).  Some shops and/or Grounds will have the option to start in early May due to department need.  We are looking for individuals that can commit to full time work, 5 days week/8 hours per day.  Planned summer vacations are acceptable.

 

If selected, the candidate will be offered a position in one of the trade shops, based on department need. You are welcome to state your preference in your resume/application. The department has the right to reassign you throughout the summer, as needed.

 

Rate is $17.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

Positions may be available in the following trade shops or Grounds and responsibilities are based on position placement. The job description and expectations will be discussed in greater detail. 

  • Grounds - Mowing, pulling weeds, weed whacking.  Sweeping and blowing walkways. Remove litter and debris. Setup and breakdown of events, other duties as assigned.  The majority of the work will be outdoors.
  • Carpenter Shop - Material handling, delivery to work sites, cleanup of work sites, setup and breakdown of events, other duties as assigned.
  • Mason Shop - Assist in material handling and delivering of materials and clean up of completed project. Keep vehicles and job sites in a clean and workman-like condition.
  • Paint Shop - Preparing locations for painting jobs, including but not limited to masking, base boards and chair rails, and moving furniture. Cleaning before and after painting job is complete.  Other duties as assigned.
  • Special Facilities - Change air filters. Clean mechanical rooms, condensers and fan motors. Assists mechanics with maintenance of systems. Other duties as assigned
  • Contractor Escorts-Assisting outside contractors with building access to dormitory locations throughout campus based on various projects assigned by Major Maintenance Project Managers

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate
  • Able to commit to full time work, 40 hours per week
